I used Aloe Gator 40 SPF on a 5-day backpacking trip in the West MacDonnell Ranges of the Northern Territory in Australia. We only applied a thick coat once a day, first thing in the morning before hiking, and even though it was sunny all day every day, we never got burned once. In addition, it wasn't greasy and rarely ran into our eyes even though we were sweating. I was super-impressed as it's hard to find good sunblock that doesn't run into your eyes when you sweat or that goes on without being greasy. And I still can't get over the fact that we only had to put it on once a day.

In addition to using it for our trip to the West MacDonnel Ranges, I have used it on and off since and it's always worked great.

That being said, I did read some complaints on REI's website by a bunch of customers who had problems with the container bursting on them (at the seams at the end of the tube) and making a complete mess in their backpack. Those people seemed really upset by this poor design, and I would be too. This especially seemed to be a problem when flying as the low air pressure of the cargo hold caused it to burst. So I am certainly taking precautions in the future (either putting it in a ziploc bag or squeezing it all out into a different tube). Again, I have no experience with this but thought I would pass it on since I saw a lot about this on REI's site but don't see anything about it here ....

I have purchased this product after a friend's suggestion. I spend a lot of time on the water for kiteboarding, sometime a full day getting 'n out. Well, this is the product you should buy. I have used it in gel or lotion. the gel is little bit sticky but works well. I have opted for the lotion, since I can't find the gel with SPF 15. This is the first year I haven't peeled on my head. After I am tanned, I use the SPF 8.
