If you're a fan of acoustic guitar, one reason you may not have heard of Jim Earp is because he doesn't travel much. He has a day job and he likes to stay close to home. He has released six CD's, not counting a compilation CD. He has gained a bit of national attention now and then, but he still plays local venues almost exclusively.

When we moved back to San Diego a couple of years ago, one of the great things about it was that I was able to hang out with Jim Earp again. His wife and mine get along famously, so they keep each other entertained while Jim and I are playing away at our guitars; it works out well for all of us! At the time, Jim had just released Guitar Solus, which contained a couple of Hawaiian-style slack key tunes. It didn't take long to see that slack key tuning had captured his imagination and wouldn't let him rest until he'd released an entire CD of them!

In the early stages of this project, Jim recorded a demo CD of these tunes for his label to hear to sell them on the project. Not only did they like the project, but Jim's playing is so confident that some of the demo tracks are used on the final project!

Over the past two years, I've heard all of these tunes played live in my living room. Now, the whole world can get in on it, since Aloha Guitar is available at Amazon and a few other outlets, and will soon be added to my collection, since the Earps don't come over all the time! I can't say enough good things about Jim Earp. In my book, he deserves way more fame and fortune than what he's getting. God is sovereign, and gives us what's best for us, of course, but if you give any of Jim's CDs a spin, I'd be willing to bet you'd find yourself agreeing with me.

I love this CD. I have seen Jim Earp play locally in San Diego a few times, and he is a great performer. It's not just Hawaiian guitar. He plays several genres, all very entertaining and fun.

Don't let the island theme throw you off. This is another well-played, well-produced acoustic album by Jim Earp. He adds a little flare with slack key, but do not fear: this is not a sound track for Hawaii Five-0. Every song is worth having, so I bought the album instead of individual songs.
