The absolute best recording of a legendary performer! Highly recommended., November 7, 2010

I have purchased several of Lydia Mendoza's albums, and this live performance album is the absolute best, much better than the other album of studio recordings with the same name. I first became aware of her when I was working in the 1960's in South Texas, and the Latin stations played her music regularly. I became reacquainted with her music this year thanks to it being featured on an NPR program, and I find that I appreciate it so much more than I did earlier. As this album is a performance done in her later years (early 1980's I believe), it has a maturity and power, and confidence above all, that aren't fully present in her earlier recordings. Her voice was still in fine form, and the dialogue and interaction with the audience in California added so much to the tremendous overall impression that this album makes. There's just something about a live performance and interaction with an audience! Highly recommended to all that have known her music since the early years in the 1930's and 1940's, and to those that would like to become acquainted with authentic, real Mexican music of the Southwest. What a classic legacy this album leaves of a legendary performer.
