Could this game have been a lot better? Without a doubt, absolutely. The graphics are pretty weak, but that by itself isn't a reason to bash this game. The controls do take some getting used to, and there are a few very frustrating parts. Overall, though, it is a fun game to play. It's not as creepy as the package makes it out to be, but it is still spooky. Would I pay almost 50 dollars for this game? No, I would rent it out first (which I did) because, I have only played it for about 6 hours and am almost half-way done already. Give this one a chance, folks. It's not a great game, but it isn't as horrible as some of the other reviewers have made it out to be.

Could have been spectacular, but marred by technical issues,

The Alone in the Dark series goes back a long way (even pre-dating the Resident Evil franchise) in terms of pioneering the survival horror genre, with this new installment kind of being a re-boot for the series. Once again filling the shoes of paranormal investigator Edward Carnby, Alone in the Dark finds Carnby caught in the middle of an apocalyptic event while investigating strange happenings in Central Park. The first thing you'll notice is that Alone in the Dark boasts some wonderfully creepy and spooky environments that drip with eerie atmosphere. In fact, the areas are so well designed (even for the Wii version) that you'll often find yourself admiring your surroundings while dodging demons and beasts. The game looks good in general as well, despite a few graphical glitches that occur, while the game's solid score adds to the overall survival horror atmosphere. What's really sad about Alone in the Dark is that the game's potential to be something special is marred by technical issues. Namely, just moving around can be a chore. The control issues (particularly on the Wii) that present themselves during combat and puzzle solving only add layers of frustration to the game, which is a crying shame, and the game's schizophrenic camera doesn't help make matters any better either. Despite it's flaws, Alone in the Dark does present some innovation in terms of it's item inventory use and some dramatic moments that will jolt you out of your chair. The game's story is intriguing, and there are some great lighting effects too. All in all, Alone in the Dark is a worthwhile trip that could have been something truly great, but in the end is brought down thanks to it's technical issues. Still, for survival horror fans, Alone in the Dark is definitely worth a look.

This game could have been great if it wasn't for the fact that the controls are pretty broken. Its not like how same games for the Wii are, that you just have to get used to them. No, this game was just poorly programmed. The simple task of opening your inventory by motioning the controllers as if you were opening a jacket quickly turned into me doing the motion over and over again until by some miracle it finally decided to work. The camera jumps all over the place for no reason too.
Atari had some great ideas for this game, the first chapter is actually exciting, but in the end its just not worth the frustraition of having to deal with the poor controls and wonky camera. Its ashame too because I really wanted to like this game. I guess I'll just have to get my horror fix from Fatal Frame 4. (hopefully!) edit: Get Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii instead, I wrote a review for that game, it's essentially what Alone in the Dark should have been!

The game isn't as bad as these 2 reviewers say..I read the reviews after I bought the game and I was worried I had wasted my money but It wasn't has hard as they had said..Once you get used to the controls its a fun game to play..But we all have different opinions I guess you just have to play it for yourself :) but please give the game a chance it truly is worth it..
you will get used to the controls it gets easy after awhile..Hint when you need to open your inventory move your wii controllers outward slowly..Also when you get to the werehouse and drive this little crane and move a box or 2..you drive towards the fire once you pass some boxes on the left stay close to the wall on the right so you are going slowly down hill but you have to be quick to move away from the wall before crashing! then once you are in the clear get off of the crane and go the rest of the way by foot with flashlight..

Since the Wii has been out there has been a small assortment of games that been truly awesome. Since then, I have been looking for a game to play. I picked up Alone in the Dark because the package made the game sound exciting, and since Resident Evil is my favorite game, Alone in the Dark looked like it could satisfy.
No such luck. I felt the story was good, but everything else fell very short of acceptable. FIrst off, the controls are rubbish. Fumbling with the Wiimote will eventually give you an intended result, but you'll have to work for it, relying mostly on chance. Secondly, death comes easy, and without warning. There were a couple times I was in the middle of playing when the game would go to the load screen, and before I could congratulate my success, I was back to the beginning of the scene. It is especially frustrating when you have to listen to the same dialogue over and over every time you die. Overall, too much standing around and listening, not enough excitement. If they wanted this to be like a TV show, then they should have made a show, not a game. Very disappointed.

Definitely Could've Been Better,

This game looked amazing when it first came out, I wanted to buy it as soon as it did. Thankfully I waited a bit and only paid $20, which in my opinion is still a little much for this particular title. The graphics are certainly not as good as they could be. Fine I guess I could deal with that. An accurate way to describe this game is an interactive movie with puzzles. You can't make a wrong move. If you do, you die. Simple. What gets on my nerves are these little mini games that they added so you actually think you're doing something. They are simple puzzles in the sense of figuring out what to do but really frustrating.
The controls are very difficult to get used to as well. Personally I get dizzy when it's required to move him in first person. And the gun use is not accurate at all. As long as you shoot in the zombie's general direction you should be good. But you do need to stop fighting, (and during this time you are getting attacked) take out the gun, switch to first-person, aim, and finally shoot. Not to mention how hard it is to drive the stupid cars with the Wii controls. The save points are another thing that kill me. It only saves at the most inconvenient moments. Right before the loooong cutscene, or right before a series of jumps you need to make before something falls on your head. And you can't save it on your own time. I don't even know why it has a save option in the menu. I know this is a rated M game, but the constant swearing annoys me. They are just trying to make this seem like a good game so people would buy it. It's not. Swearing or no swearing, stupid little puzzles or no puzzles, this is just not a good game.

First and foremost i was so dissappointed at this game,
it has so much potenial but lacks in graphics and controls, certains times when your playing you can easily forget the buttons and mess up, next what the hell is up with that camera sometimes its good the other times it moves on its own, the enemies have that survival horror look and feel but just doesnt creep you out like silent hill or dead space, dont get me wrong alone in the dark has its moments and could have been something exciting but the real reason that it kills me so much is THEY FORGOT ABOUT THE WII! if you look at the ps3 version it makes the wii version look like they just tried to make the wii version watered down, i no that ps3 has HD but come on u didnt have to change up the game because of the HD quality, the game didnt need all of the HD quality to make it good its just needed its original gameplay to make it great, please if your going to get this game get it for ps3 to expierence it the way its suppose to be, sorry wii even tho i love this system, alone in the dark forgot about you! the sad part is that my game keeps freezing it did it 6 times already WTF! this game has defects come on!

If you like the original on PSX the it's for you, the control system it's a littele weird, but with a time playing it's ok.

I'm still playing it, however it sounds like "run, run, run..." and that's all. All the things you need to do are pretty obvious and there's low interaction. just a poor game for wii.
