5.0 out of 5 stars One skull crusher of a doom album, February 3, 2007
This review is from: Alone +1 (Limited Edition Digi-Pak) (Audio CD)
Solitude Aeturnus returned from the death silence with a hell of a doom album. This is one dark, deep, skull crushing album which you all were dying to listen to for a looong time. Bands performance is truly amazing; soaked with quality riffing, amazing vocals and slow but hard hitting power which made doom a truly special occasion for the ears of chosen rockers. Oh yes, they have songs too, songs which all these legions of metalcore and NWOAHM clones would kill to write. Dont worry about the sound and production too. It is quite good and keeps bands noise at same level with contemporary heavy metal merchants. From start to the end, you wont skip a song, believe me. If you are in to heavy metal dont forget to give this album a listen. If you are in to doom however, I believe you already bought this massive monster.
Until the arrival of the new Trouble album, Solitude Aeturnus will reign the dark, misty and mysterous hills of doomland. After that, it will be the clash of the titans. Buy this album and grace your ears!

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Return, December 24, 2006
This review is from: Alone (Audio CD)
Solitude Aeturnus is back with a dam good album after an 8 yr hiatus. Every musician is in top form on this. John Perez's guitar winds and snakes, them pummels you with crushing riffs. Excellent bass and drum work that forms a tremendous bottom. Robert Lowe's vocals are filled with passion, angry and perfectly performed. He is one of the best singers I've heard in Metal. And to me what matters is the songwriting, if you don't write good songs, well.................you know what I mean. All songs are well-written and pull you in. If you enjoy excellent DOOM, this is it.Peace.

This album is awesome and exactly the kind of crushing doom I have come to expect from Solitude Aeturnus. Scent of Death is one of their greatest songs ever. Robert Lowe's vocals drip with misery and lend to the sense of impending doom. If you're a fan of Doom Metal GET THIS ALBUM!! I am also glad to see that their first two albums (Beyond the Crimson Horizon and Into the Depths of Sorrow) are now available on Amazon since they were out of print for a while. Although I downloaded them because I couldn't find them anywhere else, I'll be ordering them this weekend.

5.0 out of 5 stars "AWASH IN WAVES OF DARKNESS", January 4, 2007

This new album from Solitude Aeturnus is a rebirth, often sounding similar to their masterpiece "Beyond the Crimson Horizon". Add to this praise a modern-day production sound and what you have is another fantastic addition to the Doom Metal genre. The songs here are dark, foreboding, epic conjurations of the finest quality. As with the aforementioned Doom Metal classic there are mesmerizing sections on "Alone" that are layered perfectly with varied slow riffs and lead vocalist Rob Lowe sounding absolutely inspired; there are even some adept and fleet-fingered guitar solos and grooving riffs that still surprise me even after repeat spins. Although...there was something that I noticed that was a little bewildering. The tracks listed on the CD are in a different order than they actually play. Here is the correct track listing:

1. Scent of Death
2. Waiting For The Light
3. Blessed Be The Dead
4. Sightless
5. Upon Within
6. Burning
7. Is There...
8. Tomorrow's Dead
9. Essence Of Black

Tracks 2 and 4 are switched. Regardless of this interesting mix-up, the album flows incessantly toward a darknening horizon and is consistently impressive front-to-back. I highly recommend this release to all fans of epic Doom Metal. Thank you.

This is just about a doom metal masterpiece. Fantastic comeback album. I think it was 5 yrs in between albums but well worth the wait. Just wish these guys would play other gigs besides texas! if you liked their first couple of cd's definitely check this out. Their live DVD has a pretty damn good setlist, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of Doom, July 16, 2011

Words are not necessary for the introduction to this cult doom band. While never gaining the popularity they deserve, Solitude Aeturnus have always been able to produce top quality doom metal, and 'Alone' is not an exception.

Personally, I rank 'Alone' as the #1 album in their career, it's 70 minutes of slow and crushing, amazing doom metal; great musicianship, dark lyrics, with the songs brought to life by Robert Lowe's brilliant vocal performance. The man can convey emotions with his voice as only few can.

The digipak edition comes with a bonus 10th track (with the runtime of 10 mins 10 secs), titled 'Embrace'. The thing is, this song is not your usual bonus material. You know, the 'meh' kind of song thrown in just so the Japanese or South Americans or whoever usually gets the most bonus material, would feel special. No, 'Embrace' is one of the best, if not THE BEST song on this album. That, makes buying the digipak edition a must!

Grab it while you still can.
