This is a completely new genre for Crane and I have to say that his venture from epic fantasy into the supernatural sci-fi world is very good. Not one iota reminds the reader of where the author has once trodden upon the paths of trolls and magicians. Often it is hard to leap from a genre one is comfortable in. Instead it is as if he was never anywhere other than in the mind of this meta human girl.
A young hybrid with extraordinary skills and unknown dimensions of abilities yet to be discovered. She has been kept hidden away in a house, by her mother, for her entire existence. One day her mother doesn't return home and she is introduced to a world of unimaginable monsters and people who want to treat her like a guinea pig.
The story is fast paced and gritty with a balanced proportion of sci-fi and supernatural, without the usual suspects one tends to finds in books of this genre. I found it engrossing, perhaps because the main character wasn't your typical little girl please feel sorry for me type. Instead she was tough with a smart alec attitude, but still managed to act with the carelessness of an inexperienced youth.
I thought the end was brilliant, so much so that it made a shiver run down the back of my neck. I look forward to reading where the author will take that cliffhanger.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my review.

I stumbled upon Alone and saw that it was a series. Just a few chapters in, I went back to Amazon and ordered book 2 and 3 to start as soon as I finished book 1. Loved the series! I don't know if it is a teen series or not, I am by far not a teen but really enjoyed them. Great use of detail. Interesting characters. It never got boring...ever. I really hope the author will keep going with this series. Great story being told and would even make a great movie series. Really like the authors use of emotion and dealing with past pain in extremely strong people. Keep up the great writing!

I read voraciously, and while there are many free fiction ebooks available at Amazon.com for the Kindle now, not many of them are worth the time you'll spend reading them. Full of spelling and grammar errors, lacking plot or character development.

THIS BOOK IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

Read it. Then go and buy the rest of this author's books. Give them for holidays gifts this year.

You'll be glad you did.

What are you waiting for, go on and get you some!

Notice: I have no connection with the author, I simply love reading and good writing, and felt this tale deserved a "2 thumbs up".

I really enjoyed this story, really glad I gave it a chance! It is well written and I didn't notice any major editing issues. It has a good plot with some good twists. I love Sienna's snarky comments. The only thing that I didn't like was that she made some stupid mistakes- but that would be pretty typical of a (very) inexperienced 17 year old. Not the best book I've ever read but it is a really good read. I will be keeping an eye out for more books by this author in the future, he is only going to get better!

The writing isn’t bad, no glaring grammar or syntax errors in the version I read. But there doesn’t seem to much in the way of a plot and the character development leaves me cold, I could never care about any of them — even the girl. And the gratuitous violence and sexual innuendo left me even colder.

I got really tired of how inhumane her mother was. And where does an 18 year old girl who’s been raised essentially in captivity with no human interaction form a personality that seems to be mainly based on sarcasm and rudeness?

Like some other reviewers stated, felt like an X-Men rip off. And if all these meta humans are around how come no one links Wolfe’s killing spree to the meta humans?

The ending? Well it just stops. Obviously an attempt to get you to read the next book to see what happens. The really good authors finish the book, yeah they leave hooks to pull you toward the next one but the one you’re actually reading climaxes. They ‘invite’ you into the next book, they don’t hit you over the head with it. They make you ‘want’ to read it rather than ‘demand’ you read it.

I don’t care enough to read Box 2... or even to check it.

When you find a writer that gives you everything you want in a book: emotion, mystery, humor, and of course, some kick ass fight scenes you have to become a fan.
Every book I have ever read from Mr. Crane has given me this. These worlds that he creates are so complex and descriptive it is hard not to want to just step inside and go there.
Alone is no different. I felt Sienna's pain, emotionally, as she struggles to figure out what she is, who she is, and most importantly, why she is treated the way she was treated.
This is a strong female character, even though she is young, who listens to the many hard and brutal teachings her mother instilled in her. And they save her life countless times.
If you are looking for a book that will keep you guessing to very end, but will also leave you satisfied beyond your wildest dreams, you NEED to get this novel!
For my complete review of this book : [...]

Thank you for such a wonderful series, now hurry up and finish the next book! I am dying to read the next, and the next, and....well you get the picture!
