He plays awesome Bluegrass,

This guy is awesome. I saw him in concert in 97 at KU in Lawrence, Kansas...the most amazingly fast guitar player I ever saw! I am not normally a bluegrass fan, but he is really good!

An outstanding mix of traditional and progressive bluegrass,
This review is from: Alone & Together (Audio CD)
Tony Trischka is a bit difficult to pin down. He has been known to play very traditional bluegrass, as on his recent Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular, and some of the most eccentric progressive bluegrass you have ever heard, from his initial early recordings to his participation in the progressive bluegrass supergroup, Psychograss. On this album, he is joined by Italian flatpicker Beppe Gambetta, whose playing is influenced not only by Doc Watson and Clarence White, but by European folk music. However, unlike Slavek Hanzlik (another European-born flatpicker who mixes bluegrass with European folk traditions), Gambetta's style is hyperactive. He sounds a bit phony when he sings an old folk song in English, but that is to be expected, and for the most part, he keeps his mouth shut, and lets his fingers do the talking.
The tracks alternate between solo banjo tracks by Trischka that are similar to those on his album with Bela Fleck, solo guitar pieces by Gambetta, and duets. The style transitions between very traditional and the type of progressive bluegrass played by groups like Strength In Numbers and any number of other classically influenced projects involving Edgar Meyer. The mood is consistently lively, and the two musicians obviously have a great deal of respect for each other. Gambetta may be unfamiliar to many bluegrass fans, but this album may make them fans. I find it more satisfying than his duet album with Dan Crary, in part because a guitar/banjo album has a bit more balance than a guitar duet album (although the Tony Rice/Norman Blake albums are outstanding). His solo albums aren't quite as much fun as this one either. This is just a wonderful piece of work, well balanced in every way. Further listening: Tony Trischka and Bela Fleck's inappropriately titled Solo Banjo Works, Norman Blake's albums with Tony Rice, Norman Blake and Tut Taylor's Flatpickin' in the Kitchen, Tut Taylor's Friar Tut.

Actual artists are "Tony Trischka & Beppe Gambetta"
Phenominal!! Italian guitarist Beppe Gambetta and America banjoist Tony Trischka. Not all traditional bluegrass, but a nice mix of styles.
