5.0 out of 5 stars A warm, captivating voice!
Linda has a long career as an actress, but is only recently being given attention for her incredibly warm, exciting singing voice!! Rex Reed wrote what amounts to a love letter in his review of her latest cabaret performances, and this long-awaited CD gives ample proof to a wider audience what all the hubbub's about! Her versions of songs from the 60s - HOLD ME,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but could be better
Like many others, I know Linda Purl as a very likeable actress. This CD surprised me. The woman has a voice with a WILD range - she's all over the place! - and I like the song selection. I did not care for a lot of the arrangements - lots of loud heavy instrumentation intruding all over her singing. The arrangement for ALONE TOGETHER, in particular, I found annoying. Much...

Her versions of songs from the 60s - HOLD ME, THRILL ME, KISS ME - THIS GIRL'S IN LOVE WITH YOU - and her compelling versions of songs from the 30s, 40s and 50s - are breathtaking! This woman can ACT as well as SING a song, and it shows!! The producers/engineers chose a rather harsh-sounding microphone for her vocals, but no matter - any recording by Linda Purl is going to be great, regardless - she's a class act - and her musical gifts are not to be denied!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, November 20, 2003

While recently listening to the S.T.A.G.E. benefit concert honoring Johnny Mercer, Linda Purl's version of "Midnight Sun" piqued my curiosity. I decided to take a chance and order her CD, "Alone Together." I am so glad I did! Not only is her voice beautiful, but the arrangements on this CD are outstanding. Until now I had only heard Mel Carter's '60s recording of "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" - I love Linda's slower tempo version here. Also of note are "Teach Me Tonight," "The Nearness of You," and "I'll Be Around." But the jewel of the CD is "You're My Thrill," a wonderful version interspersed with snippets of "Misty" - just, simply, a masterpiece! By the way, I am so tired of spending big bucks on CD's for very little play time (e.g., Bette's latest), but this CD does not disappoint in that department. It contains 15 tracks! If you like to just sit back and relax while listening to beautifully performed and flawlessly produced music, buy this CD. You will NOT be disappointed!

Who knew??!! Although I have enjoyed Linda Purl as an actress for probably 25
years, what a pleasant surprise to find she has an amazing singing voice. Wonderful material, great interpretaion, and a fantastic band. Anyone who likes light jazz and standards will love this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars A major discovery, October 23, 1998

What a surprise! The TV actress turns out to be a terrific, sultry singer who offers up a collection of classic romantic tunes with strong instrumentation. This is simply a delightful album, hopefully the first of many to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, January 15, 2002

I have been a fan of Linda Purl since I first saw her in the movie "Women at West Point" back in College. Fortunately, I stumbled across her website and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered she was also a singer. Curious, I purchased Alone Together and quite frankly was stunned by how good this CD really is. I may not be as culturally astute as Rex Reed, but when he described it as "enchanting"...he was right. My only question, is when is her next release?

5.0 out of 5 stars Gosh, didn't know she sang, delightful surprise!, September 11, 1999

What a very lovely voice. Not quite enough variety in the material, though. I recommend a mix of slow and some up-tempo pieces to make it more interesting. And on some pieces I wanted to shoot the drummer (or is it the arranger's fault?). But I'm still glad I took the chance (never having heard her sing) and bought what turned out to be a great find!

Hope she does another disc, but calls me first for some good musical advice. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Linda Purl A Class Act, November 26, 2000

A great album from a great actress with a great voice. This album is a delight to listen to on a cold and rainy night. I am looking forward to many other albums from this talented lady. I would like for her to concentrate on specific composers such as Gershwin or Porter in the vein of the Ella Fitzgerald songbooks on the Verve label, but anything she releases would be wonderful. Keep up the good work Linda.

Much too busy - just let her sing! Still, it's an interesting CD and one that I think fans of female vocalists would find at least charming if not outstanding. I'll buy another Linda Purl CD in the future unless I see she uses the same arranger! (Since I wrote that review I've been listening to this A LOT and must add that, some arrangements aside, the songs HOLD ME... and I CAN LET GO NOW are very well sung and are the highlights of this recording - excellent!)

5.0 out of 5 stars PLEASANT SURPRISE!, June 2, 2000

WHO KNEW! Linda, if you are reading this, WELL DONE! Every once in a while, I take a chance on artists I am not familliar with. What an absolute joy to find one so talented as Linda Purl. This is the kind of cd that people should put on and do nothing but sit and listen to this set. I felt I wanted to be in an intimate club and letting the music wash over me. She really sets a mood. She had a beautiful, full voice and the orchestrations complement her perfectly. I hope and pray that this is only the beginning of a long and spectacular recording career for her because she is fantastic! MORE, MORE!

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE!!!, May 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Alone Together (Audio CD)
I came across this cd by accident in a music store. I knew Linda as an actress, and had her on a Gershwin tribute and a Burt Bacharach tribute. And, I'm a sucker for female vocalist! I'm 30 years old and love this type of album. The songs are great and her voice sparkles! Some people have critiqued minor points-mics, synths, etc. But if you're looking for a luminous, adult cd, look no further. Linda, I hope you put out another cd real soon.
