Editorial Reviews

Pat Martino is a legend for more than his speed-demon virtuosity at high-velocity tempos or his angelic harmonies on ballads. He has also faced death several times and tells the tale of his survival and recovery with a perspective akin to a zen master. These recordings from Martino's personal collection document the easy interplay and chemistry that he had forged with rhythm guitarist Bobby Rose on their first duet tour during the summer of 1977. Both men were at the very peak of their powers during these years and we are fortunate to have these superb performances preserved for posterity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! August 15, 2012
By Zoko
Format:Audio CD
I heard this duo at the Jazz Workshop in Boston around this time (I had also seen his quartet there around then). Of course, I was knocked out by Pat in both settings.
Kudos to Bobby Rose for doing a superb job supplying a deep and solid groove that Pat could freely improvise over. The release of this recording is a wonderful surprise.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Martino fans August 14, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I never knew about this recording, but it was always one I wanted to hear. By that, I mean they were so awesome on The Visit, I always wished that they had done a duet recording. The picture with Pat and his signature Benedetto (I think) is misleading. A little research revealed this was recorded in 1977. I especially enjoyed hearing Israfael, one of my favorite Martino compositions. They play especially great on Sunny and The Visit. Not a bad track here.

At least one track is live. The fidelity could be better, but Martino is in fine form. Rose is OK, but nothing like being backed up by someone like Jack Wilkins. That said, I'd like to hear these two play together NOW.

If you don't have The Visit album, check that out first. For me, it doesn't get much better than Footprints. If you have most of Pat's library, you will want this recording.

I just listened to recording on Amazon's Coud Player, but haven't been able to download on computer, yet.

Thanks for making this available Pat!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE LOST TREASURE May 24, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Is a live album recorded during 1977-1978. The recordings are from Pat Martino's personal collection and after the fussion period of Joyous Lake. Is a very intersant album. Only two guitar, Martino and Bobby Rose and the repertoire is the clasic themes of this years. The sound is quite god and is a period of transition to another things, is the come back to the old influence . I like the album and I like the way he play. Is a visceral duo album, great.
