I have never heard of this label, Mapleshade Productions, but this is one of the best CD's for sound recording quality. It also offers great performances by the four players. If you are a fan of trombone players and you haven't heard of Steve Davis, you will be very pleased. Beautiful tone and excellent technique. Definitely worth getting. Easy to listen to Jazz music.

The sound quality on this is amazing. (Mapleshade not only releases records, but also sells things like speaker wire and other sound-quality items.) The playing matches the sound quality. Steve Davis is my favorite trombone player, and if I had to pick one Davis disc for the mythical desert island, it would be this one.Another reason you should buy this, or some other Steve Davis disc, is that he's a swell guy. He does things like respond to my father's e-mails about his playing. As I wrote in a review of a disc by Steve's cohort Eric Alexander, of course the legends of the music are great, but let's also support the best of its living practitioners, of which Steve is one.
