On these two albums, you will find a more mature voice of an older teenager as opposed to the voice on the albums of A Portrait of Donny/Too Young and Donny Osmond Album/To You with Love, Donny.

There are many of Donny's hit songs, from the pleasant rocking rhythm of "Life Is Just What You Make It (Alone Together)" to Neil Sedaka's melancholy "Other side of Me", plus "Twelve of Never", "Young Love", "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and more.

Get this album! It is the ultimate Donny Osmond Love Songs Cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Always time for Donny., July 7, 2008
This review is from: Alone Together/A Time for Us (Audio CD)
'Alone Together' was the first LP I ever bought. My neighbour had 'Portrait Of Donny', which I loved and fully intended to buy, but 'Alone Together' was just released so I went with that. Of course, there are many 'cooler' albums to have as your first purchase, but I've always adored 'Alone Together' and as the years rolled by I never expected it to get released on CD.

But, thanks to 7ts records, it has! And what a good job they've made of it too. As far as early Donny albums go, it's no break from the formula, but something about it's mixture of covers, tunes written by his brothers and more uptempo material makes it special. Who can't love the likes of 'Life Is Just What You Make It', 'Sunshine Rose' and 'The Other Side Of Me'? Who can't be charmed by it's 2 UK #1 singles 'Young Love' and 'The Twelfth Of Never' and fab Osmonds penned tracks like 'Do You Want Me', 'It Takes A Lot Of Love' and 'Tears On My Pillow'? Donny's voice here, starting to 'break', is superb and the whole package is truly delightful and for me, this album is the absolute highlight of 7ts Osmonds release campaign.

I was quite smitten with 'A Time For Us' back in the day, too. 'When I Fall In Love' was the only UK single released, peaking at #4, but there surely could've been others like the beautiful, dramatic title track and 'Guess Who'. Today, I feel the album hasn't aged as well as 'Alone Together'. This material sounds like it should have been selected for someone much older than Donny's 16 years. That said, it's still pretty darn good and it is wonderful to hear it sounding so pristine on CD at last. Always loved the sleeve, too!

Summing up, if you were around at the time and a fan of Donny's, you won't need me to tell you to snap this (and the others) up sharpish. The thing with CDs like this is that they can be deleted quite quickly which would be terrible for people who haven't got them. As I've said before, buy with confidence and visit your childhood/teen years once more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Voice transition albums, July 4, 2008
By
MUSICman (Cincinnati, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alone Together/A Time for Us (Audio CD)
Donny was 15 when these albums came out in 1973. His voice was changing, but oddly these songs sound terrific. ALONE TOGETHER has a lot of easy going pop songs. His last top 10 solo of the 70s, THE TWELFTH OF NEVER is on this album. An original composition, LIFE IS JUST WHAT YOU MAKE IT is an uplifting song and the title chosen for his autobiography. YOUNG LOVE is not a personal favorite single of mine, but it does grow on you. It was #1 in England!! Donny is amazing at any age, his career only got better when he sang with his sister, Marie. She's my favorite Osmond.
A TIME FOR US is a fan favorite, I've read and noticed over the years, Although it's only mediocre to me. The title song is romantic and well sung. The single, ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? is good, the only Donny song that makes me prefer the original (Elvis) version. YOUNG AND IN LOVE sounds better on the "Make the world go away" album, when he and Marie re-recorded it. I'm not crazy about this album as a whole. I think the music from 1973 demanded more fun songs, these are a little slow and weepy. The next two Donny albums (Donny & Disco train) are more uplifting and exciting. But, don't let that stop you from buying this CD. It's worth adding to your collection.

I must have been in an "Osmond" mood or something that day. I have no clue why I ordered it, but I'm glad I did. It's actually a very good CD with a lot of "oldie" type songs on it. Very pleasant voice.

Part Of 70's pop would not be complete without having an Osmond album or two in your collection. I have enjoyed the voice Of Donny for many years and is one of my heroes. This CD is after Donny's voice changed and did his version of Johnny Mathis' Twelfth Of Never. My favorite songs on here are It Takes a Lot of Love, and the uptempo version of Unchained Melody. This is just part of collection, and this had to be included. Donny O fans you must have this one. Enjoy and Stay 2nd :-)
