Well founded arguments, June 29, 1998

This review is from: Alone in the Universe?: The X-Files, Aliens and God (Paperback)
The chapters against alien abductions, crop circles, etc, are well founded and factual. Many die hard alien lovers are having a hard time giving up their beliefs in the face of books like this that set the facts straight. Wilkenson also shows "life out there" doesn't contradict biblical teachings and how Jesus definently wasn't a space alien.

This was 1 of those few books I didn't care for very much. There were some GREAT moments but all in all I would give it 2 1/2 stars.

First 2/3 were great... last part a big disappointment, July 27, 2001

This review is from: Alone in the Universe?: The X-Files, Aliens and God (Paperback)
I read this book with an open mind and was pleased by the reasoned and (I thought) balanced approach to the question of ET life, UFOs, and aliens in general. Where the book lost me completely was in the end, when I suddenly found myself slammed with the author's blatant attempt to convert me to Christianity! The abrupt shifting of gears was unsettling and actually annoyed me. His arguments for belief in the Christian God were not very convincing on one level (in fact they sounded almost desperate), and insulting on another. Does he assume that because I am reading this book, and have an interest in the possibility of alien life, that I do not believe in God/Jesus? Does he believe that everyone who reads his book is in need of saving? If so, how presumptuous, and how disrespectful of his reader. If that was NOT his intention, then where did his 'Believe in Jesus!' rant come from? While I knew going in that this book would cover God and religion, and in fact had looked forward to reading a well-thought-out analysis of how the existence of Extra-Terrestrial life would impact our religions, I was not prepared for a shameless attempt at conversion. I was also disappointed to note that the author only covered a very narrow segment of Judeo/Christian belief, and did not really address other religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Animism, or other 'non-Biblical' faiths. So, I rate the first 2/3 of this book a (4) **** and the final section a very disappointing (1) *

A christians desperate attempt to prove his God., April 2, 1998
This review is from: Alone in the Universe?: The X-Files, Aliens and God (Paperback)
I have no set beliefs, I am open to all ideas, this is why I purchased this book. But this book was a religious based opinion of a man desperately trying to disprove all alien accounts while at the same time even more desperately trying to explain his belief in his God. He fears aliens because their existance are a threat to his "specail" christian relationship with his God. Perhaps he should read, "The Jesus Conspiracy"
