a honky-tonkin' unheralded masterpiece,
This review is from: And Along Came Jones (Audio CD)
this CD was his first for MCA in 1991 ...this CD is a honky-tonk album and it highlighted by "You Done Me Wrong" and "Honky Tonk Myself to Death". the other eight songs are just as great particularly the laments "Angels Don't Fly" and "She Loved a Lot in Her Time". the novelty song on the album is "Heckel and Jeckel". i love "You Couldn't Get The Picture" with the crisp piano work. for those of you who remember George Strait's 1996 hit, "King of the Mountain", well, George Jones actually recorded it first on this CD. this is a great honky-tonk album as was his follow-up in 1992, WALLS CAN FALL. however, those two CDs were produced by Kyle Lehning and Emory Gordy, Jr. respectively and since 1993 he's been closely associated with producer's Norro Wilson and Buddy Cannon. AND ALONG CAME JONES shows us that if given the proper material, he could've recorded one hundred versions of his celebrated 1980 album I AM WHAT I AM {meaning that all ten tracks are outstanding}. get this CD and you'll be shocked that Jones is just as spry and vocally amazing at 60 just as he was at 50 or 45 years of age.

This review is from: And Along Came Jones (Audio CD)
This is a hell of an album, that many Jones fans don't own. Angels don't Fly, She Loved Alot in Her Time, and King of the Mountain (later recorded by George Strait) are dynamite ballads. His You Done Me Wrong is my favorite song on the album. The only song that isn't up to Jones' usual standards is You Couldn't Get the Picture, but its Jones' voice and you know that can't be bad.

"And Along Came Jones" '91, "The Cold Hard Truth" '99, would've made a great double album, both have classic Jones written all over. The one amazing fact about George Jones is the man's longevity, able to survive all these years in the music business where as most artist are long forgotten, that's not the case with Jones, like a freight train running full steam ahead, with a long endless winding track, never looking back and moving forward, self evident is his recent release the 2005, "The Hits I Missed and One I Didn't", could very well be the best George Jones recording ever, Jones is sounding fresh and polished as if it were his first recording, a definite newborn classic. And Along Came Jones, recorded 1991 with the M.C.A. label, is a probable forgotten recording by the ol' troubadour, but does highlight some good Jones material, "You Couldn't Get The Picture" did receive some airplay, there's the well written, "Angel's Don't Fly" and "King Of The Mountain"... most every Jones album usually features a couple novelty tunes - "Heckel and Jeckel", "And Along Came Jones", are featured. Another recording of classic country, "Jones country".
