Book Description

July 27, 2005
The Perkiomen Creek is a picturesque stream that drains a major portion of western Montgomery County. It begins just beyond the northern borders of the county and travels south. The creek empties into the Schuylkill River at the county’s lower border. The old Perkiomen Railroad closely followed the same path. Along the Perkiomen showcases postcards of the Perkiomen Valley in Montgomery County as it existed during the first half of the twentieth century. Readers will visit the villages and towns along the creek and others nearby. This visual journey is intended to provide a glimpse of the Perkiomen region’s rich history.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best in the Arcadia Series!!!, August 5, 2005
This review is from: Along the Perkiomen (PA) (Postcard History Series) (Paperback)
This book is the best in the Arcadia series to date. The author writes with a perspicuity that thinly disguises what appears to have been a large volume of research and knowledge. The images are wonderful beyond description. I grew up along the Perkiomen and many of my long dormant and fond memories were awakened once more while reading this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in history, postcards or in learning something new.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Moment in Time Along the Perkiomen, August 17, 2005
This review is from: Along the Perkiomen (PA) (Postcard History Series) (Paperback)
As a native-born Pennsylvanian who grew up near the Perkiomen, it is my opinion that this author has truly created a "virtual walking tour" "Along the Perkiomen." It's a fascinating step back in time to a period when suburban lifestyles along the Perkiomen seemed less hectic and surrounded by the natural beauty of its environment. In addition to magnificent churches, schools, hotels/restaurants, and a strong industrial base in this valley, this author illustrates the many forms of transportation consisting of horse and buggy, vintage automobiles, and the Perkiomen Railroad. I highly recommend this book for anyone who would like to take a walk down memory lane and enjoy seeing what life was like in the 1900s "Along the Perkiomen." A must buy! Pure Americana at its best!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Old Stomping Grounds!, November 15, 2008
This review is from: Along the Perkiomen (PA) (Postcard History Series) (Paperback)
The Perkiomen Valley! I was delightfully surprised that there is a book on this subject that is such high quality! I enjoyed seeing the photographs of people from the turn of the century playing in the places where I did as a child! Green Lane,East Greenville, Palm, all bring back wonderful memories. I also enjoyed seeing the buildings and comparing them to what I know what they look like today. Sadly, the Red Hill Hotel was torn down in order to build a GAS STATION!!!

Thank you for such a wonderful book! I only wish I would have known about this book before my Grandmother passed away. She spent the last half of her 97 years living in East Greenville and my Grandfather was the Superintendent of Upper Perk. school district in the 60's. Her house was near the water treatment plant and I've stood where the picture shows the two women sitting in the middle of the creek with the falls behind them (perhaps in their Easter Bonnets)? I've ice skated there as well on the few occations that the ice was thick enough.

Thanks again!
