If the Sony A300 or A350 is your first DSLR and you have been relying on the manual that came with the camera, this is the perfect book for you. I did not realize how many features on my camera I was not using until I bought this book. The manual that came with my A300 is pretty bad. The field guide fills in all the gaps that the camera manual left out and more. The field guide is written in a clear and concise manner that answers your questions on operating the camera and also on taking better pictures. I highly recommend this book for new A300 or A350 owners.

I was working through the book with my a350 and getting excited until I wanted to know how the MODE DIAL works. Although there is a reference to the DIAL that says "covered in detail in chapter 2". I can't find anything in the book about it. It's as if there're pages missing! So I'm left to fiddling around in the Sony user manual supplied to find out what the P,A,S,M settings do and the various scene selects. The book is a disappointment really.

This book made photography seem easy because it followed a logical step by step process. There were ample pictures and well written text to explain how to get the most out of this camera. I would suggest this book for an amatuer or a seasoned photographer. There is something to be learned for everyone.

I love Sony and their history of solid electronics. The Sony A300/350 is no exception to their proven track record with even more capabilities than we might expect at first. Having paired their electronics with the Minolta A-Mount autofocus lens architecture offers a huge selection of excellent, yet inexpensive A-Mount lenses to choose from. The manual that comes with the A350 is the only weakness that needs improvement in my opinion. This field guide offers a nearly complete review of the settings and the menu structure within the camera and explains the uses of the many features. While there are many books on the subject of photography that explain the art of photograph, that is, composition, aperture and shutter speed selection, depth of field and the like - this field guide also goes into the basics of those topics. If you own, or plan to purchase, a Sony A300 or A350, I believe this is the book for you - it is clear, concise, well illustrated and easy to understand.

I was worried about learning to use my Sony Alpha 300 camera, but this is the perfect manual. It's clear and well-organized, with lots of color photos, and covers both the features of the camera and the basics of photography. It's been a long time since I thought about f stops and depth of field but this book has clear and simple explanations. Explanations are "chunked" under clear headings so you can skim or go into as much detail as you need.

I'm working my way through it from the beginning, but it also has a very usable index for quick answers to specific questions (which I've also used.) It's a great guide to all the features of the camera, and should be included in the box!!

If you want a camera specific guide for the Sony A300 buy a different book. If you want a general photography guide this is good as any.

Try to find out how to use your mode dial the contents say chapter 2. Well someone left it out or never wrote it, chapter 2 is there, not the info.

I would have returned it but was late getting around to read it.

I got nothing useful at all out of this book, If you know anything about cameras at all, you will be bored with this book.
It seems that this is aimed at a novice, If you've never owned a camera, then this is good, if you know how to use one, then don't wastes your time and money, your instruction manual will be just as good.

This little book is so full of information and tips that it would be hard to not take good pictures. The author has written in a style that is simple, yet sophisticated for the more advanced. In addition, the author presents his topics with refreshing humor.

Reading this manual does help clarify and explain some of the camera's features and functions better than owner's manual information.

I was very disappointed in this book. Other than the first two chapters it has little if anything specific to the A300/A350. An explanation of the "mode dial" is completely missing . This is coincidently covered very poorly in the Sony Instruction Manual. This is arguably the third most important control after the power switch and shutter release. This book is outstanding example of poor editing and it's a shame since the content that is there was done well.
