Product Description

The workhorse of American infantry outerwear for the past three decades. Used heavily during the Vietnam War, the M-65 features the NYCO wind and tear resistant, water repellent 50% cotton/50% nylon sateen outer shell. This jacket is built to last!

The m-1965 field jacket or m-65 is an iconic military jacket introduced for the u.s. Military in 1965. The m-65 field jacket was widely used by united states forces during the vietnam war; it was and is a standard issue to us troops in several other wars all around the globe. Alpha industries produced the original garment for the military and was instrumental in working with the government to improve the performance and design. This was the last revision to the field jacket. It replaced the cotton fabric of earlier jackets with newly developed nylon/cotton sateen fabric that was virtually indestructible and wind resistant. The collar was redesigned to incorporate a hidden hood. Velcro closures were added. Nyco is a 50 percentage nylon/ 50 percentage cotton blend that provides excellent comfort and durability. This military-approved fabric resists fading, shrinking and wrinkling, improving the longevity of the garment in any environment or season. The fit of the jacket is a classic military fit. M65 as seen in pop culture includes, robert de niro in taxi driver, sylvester stallone as john rambo, arnold schwartzenegger in the terminator and pierce brosnan as james bond.

Seems very well made.

I purchased the size I normally wear and it fit, it was not too big (unlike what others have written).

Overall, I recommend the Alpha Industries M-65 field coat.

I have been buying Alpha Field coats faithfully since my high school days. Typically I purchase a new M-65 jacket every ten years or so because they've proven to be just that durable (I'm usually only compelled to buy a new M-65 after my current one has become embarrassingly dingy and stained from constant wear, but the jacket itself has always held up admirably). I used to always buy my M-65 jackets from the local army surplus store but for some reason, this year, none of my regular spots had any in stock. So I decided to order online with confidence because I was loyal to the brand and I couldn't imagine anything going wrong. However, when I received the jacket, I noticed several problems with construction that I've never experienced before. First of all, two of the interior buttons for securing the lining were nearly falling off. Then, the stitching in several areas was sloppy to the point of being unacceptable, with long threads hanging as if tattered, stitch lines running crookedly, gaps where the stitching is skipped altogether, and even one extremely noticeable area on the collar where it appears as if the sewing machine jammed up and left a clump of knotted thread two inches long. Also, I purchased a liner from a separate vendor in anticipation of receiving the jacket and discovered that the medium liner doesn't fit the medium jacket. The liner is too big, bunches up underneath the jacket, and if I wear it unzipped the liner bulges outward visibly and makes for a sloppy appearance. I imagine that a large liner must have been mistakenly labeled as a medium. Either that, or Alpha no longer even bothers to ensure that the correct sized liners actually fit their corresponding jackets. But the worst problem is with the lower exterior pockets.Read more ›

The previous reviewer (C. Sterling) has greatly influenced me to go with Alpha Industries M65 field coat, mainly because it has two internal pockets, and secondly because of the quality.

I did have a chance to try on both the small and extra small as I am nearly same build as C. Sterling. (I am 5'9" 150 lbs. 41" chest)
The extra small fits pretty snug, I don't think there's room for a sweater underneath, considering I was already wearing a long sleeve and a t-shirt. I should also mention that it was very stiff to move around in, as the material is very rugged.

Although I loved the more slimmer fit of the extra small, I had to go with the small since I didn't want to be uncomfortably stiff and cold. The small is a little baggier, but still fits nice over my body without looking ridiculous. The coat is a little long, but I guess that's expected since it is a field coat after all. The front pockets are all button snap, which I am proud to announce since I am not a fan of velcro flaps. The breast pockets are easily accessible, the bottom ones are not. This is because, the flap hinge sits on top of where the pocket begins. This is not a big issue for me, however, I do wish though, that the bottom two pockets were protruded like the breast pockets. As for the inner two pockets, one is zippered and one has a velcroed square. The velcroed one seems a little wider than the zippered, and just as deep as one of the front pockets. The zippered pocket seems about half inch shorter than the velcroed.

Final thoughts:
-The quality is awesome for something made in China, though now a days you'd be surprised that some quality goods are made there.
-Love the inner pockets, wish there were two more, but that's just asking too much since I carry a lot of stuff on me.

This jacket by Alpha Industries is worth every cent. Great construction, weight, and feel. I ordered a black one and it's now my favorite coat. I just need to purchase a ALS/92 liner for next winter. Make sure that you purchase a size smaller than you normally wear. I normally wear a size M and purchase a small, and I have plenty of room to spare. This coat is also MADE IN THE U.S.A.! (Knoxville, TN to be exact) It's nice to be able to say that about a GREAT product. The customer service from Alpha Industries is very good too. My coat was shipped out the very next business day after I ordered it. If you are looking for the M-65 style jacket, look no further. Btw, this coat looks very much like the black one Jensen Ackles, a.k.a., Dean Winchester, wears in the Television series "Supernatural".

I'm very happy with this jacket so far. It looks good, and the construction and materials appear to be first-rate. It looks to be even sturdier than my old M-65, and that one remains wearable, if a little ratty-looking, after more than fifteen years of heavy use.

Fit: I'm about 6-2/210, and the large fits me quite well. Many jackets are a little short through the sleeves for my long arms, but this one is just about right.

Construction: Everything about it looks and feels good and solid, from the stitching to the zipper. The whole jacket feels reassuringly sturdy. If anything, it feels a little stiff, but I expect that will ease up after a little break-in.

Features: Pretty much your standard M-65, although the two inside pockets are a nice addition. Definitely water-repellent; it's already kept me dry through some heavy rains. The jacket has buttons to hold a liner; the liner isn't included, but is available separately. (I still have my old one, so this wasn't an issue for me.)

Value: The Alpha jacket isn't the least expensive around, but materials and construction appear to be a notch above others I've seen. If you're just looking for a fashion statement, one of the cheaper options might do, but if you're expecting to wear it a lot and use it hard, this one is worth the extra bucks. I expect to be wearing this for years to come.
