Great things I underline red. The book is red all over now.,
By Fred van Waaijen, (f.h.van.waaijen@hccnet.nl) (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alpha Lipoic Acid: Nature's Ultimate Antioxidant (Paperback)
If you start using a unsuspected pill to improve your life and it works you feel that the books are a gift. Where I live everything has to be scientificly proven. Pycnogenol is in the book and I use it against Restless Legs. The therapeutic recommendations are a great relieve for living on with Alpha Lipoic Acid. Not dangerous unless you take for 1000 US dollars a day. I started with 3 times 50 mg and are using now 9 times this doses. As my Glucose values dropped from average 11.5 mmol/liter to 7.5 mmol/liter I really feel fantastic. And I sleep the sleep of the innocent rather than the two hour Stressed naps. Great job by Allen Sosin. Great to have him via Amazon books on the Internet. Fred van Waaijen, 60 years old again going strong in Amsterdam the Netherlands, Europe.

INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE,
By
This review is from: Alpha Lipoic Acid: Nature's Ultimate Antioxidant (Paperback)
This is a very informative work about free radicals, anti-oxidants & longevity, focusing on the role of Alpha Lipoic Acid - also known as Thioctic Acid - and its ability to inhibit biological aging and maintain optimum health. An anti-oxidant co-enzyme, ALA has proved highly effective against liver damage, regulates blood sugar, inhibits viruses and decreases fat production.
ALA is special due to its ready bio-availability, presence in a variety of locations (tissues, cells, membranes, etc), interaction with other anti-oxidants, chelates free metal ions and neutralizes the following free radicals: superoxide, hydroxyl, peroxyl, hypochlorous, singlet oxygen, hydrogen peroxide & heavy metals. ALA is found in potatoes, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, yams, sweet potatoes and red meat, particularly heart & liver. Sosin highlights the role of the substance in combating cancer, diabetes & heart disease, and in neuroprotection with reference to Neuropathy, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's. Other chapters deal with this role of this potent anti-oxidant in inflammatory disorders, HIV, and vision disorders like macular degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma. The special role of ALA in protecting internal organs and its benefits for athletes are examined whilst dosages are provided in chapter 15 which also has sections on possible side effects. I found chapter two, which is devoted to the main free radical culprits and the major protective anti-oxidants, of great interest. One can even work out your own anti-oxidant profile in a question-and-answers section. Appendix A reflects the supplement program at a wellness institute. There is a resource guide for buying it as a supplement, a section on questions and answers, a very extensive bibliography of mostly articles from scientific journals and a thorough index. Other informative works on anti-oxidant therapies include Renewal: The Anti-Aging Revolution by Timothy j Smith, The Superhormone Promise by William Regelson and the great range of introductory guides by Dr Ray Sahelian.

This review is from: Alpha Lipoic Acid: Nature's Ultimate Antioxidant (Paperback)
My father was suffering terribly from the effects of aging, and wewere all seeking alternative supplements to help him. Sosin's book gave some very thorough information on alpha lipoic acid. We double checked this information at a good site...We found out that ALA is good for us younger people too. Thanks to Sosin's book..., my father is doing much better. He's back with us now.

Useful little book especially for those suffering from a chronic disease,

This review is from: Alpha Lipoic Acid: Nature's Ultimate Antioxidant (Paperback)
This little book informs us about the applications of alpha lipoic acid, which is a sort of super antioxidant. It neutralizes "both water- and fat-soluble free radicals" and regenerates other antioxidants in the body.
The preliminary chapters in the book explain the basic facts about free radicals and antioxidants. Since free radicals are implicated in practically all the various serious diseases that plagur our society, alpha lipoic acid can be successfully prescribed for those suffering from diverse diseases. I was particularly interested in the fact that alpha lipoic acid lowers/normalizes blood sugar levels in diabetics. It has apparently been used successfully in Germany for more than 30 years, where it has reduced the secondary effects of diabetes such as "damage to the retina, cataract formation, nerve and heart damage". The supplement improves blood flow, regenerates nerves and reverses polyneutopathy." There are chapters devoted to the beneficial effects of the supplement on diabetes, neuropathy, heart disease, inflammatory disorders and HIV. Detailed case histories are provided showing the success of treatment with alpha lipoic acid and other listed valuable supplements which should simultaneously be prescribed. This is a useful little book informing us about the nature and value of alpha lipoic acid, but it is not particularly readable for the layman, since it contains many scientific details. Absolutely worth a read should you suffer from any chronic disease or wish to prevent yourself from doing so.

Wonder Nutrient,
By Angel Whisper "Angel" (Fort Worth, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alpha Lipoic Acid: Nature's Ultimate Antioxidant (Paperback)
Great, research based information about the healing/curative/life saving power of this long overlooked nutrient in many of the most challenging health issues found in modern medicine. ALA appears to be a "miracle drug" nutrient as it attacks the free radicals that cause most all of the damage to our body's cellular structures. GREAT READ AND VERY APPLICABLE and PRACTICAL and the INFO is indeed life-saving in our modern lives!
