Positive: The story caught my attention and kept it until the end. Imaginative plot and very well written.

Spoilers ahead!!!!!!

The romance.
Silas was a freakishly weird guy who cuts himself and has conversations with his dead wife. Good prospect, not. He meets Mel and is a total d__khead. He is rude and insulting, but she seems to be okay with it. Next day, he is chased and shot at with some silvery phase gun? Wait, are there aliens after him? Turns out they are after the girl. Seemed totally random that they would try to kill him.. She has some unexplained healing power and heals him, so maybe she is an alien. So Silas is suddenly madly in love with her and declares he will protect her with his life from the silvery gun people who it turns out are not aliens, but are an uber secret government agency. (run on sentence, I know)

So Silas is running away with Mel to hide. And surprise, the bad guys find them. So Silas all of a sudden has super powers and is able to dispatch all but one of the bad guy by summoning a black hole with his fingers. (Obviously, he is an alien.) Bad guy shoots him and takes off with the girl.

So Silas discovers a tracking device on his car and heads off to the local 7-11 and buys all the fixin's for a super bomb.

Meanwhille, a bunch of man-hating alien fem-bots (These are the real aliens) have hatched a diabolical plan to turn all human men into pussycats.

You'll have to read it for yourself to see how it all turns out.

My conclusion: It was a convoluted mess, but an entertaining convoluted mess.

When I read the first couple of chapters of this book I wasn't quite sure which direction it was going to take. It starts on a bit of a sad note, followed by a chance meeting between two individuals who seem fated to be together. The story has the appearance of being a dark romance but rapidly develops into so much more!

Paranormal powers, conspiracy and an unusual plot for apocalyptic world domination make this one of the most unique stories I have ever read. Magic and romance intertwines with breathtaking action, leading up to an ending that left me pretty much speechless. All I could think was, "WOW!" I was curious about the title at first, but at the end it makes perfect sense. The story ends on a satisfying note but not without leaving a few open-ended questions that lead me to believe there will be a sequel. I am enthusiastically looking forward to reading more!

There are many different twists in this book, to where you think you have it figured out, but then something happens and you have no clue what to expect next. The different sets of characters that are introduced in this book bring enough into this book to keep you reading. Yet they leave enough open that you want to read the next books in the series.

Silas's character has his dark past, one that you are given hints to during the course of this book. There are times where you wonder if he is insane, or if he does have certain powers. Mel's character seems like the typical damsel in distress, but once again looks can be deceiving.

The battle that is going on in the background between the two groups, the Sirens and the Daelius, makes you wonder who is right and who is wrong. Which group will win, and what will it cost Silas and Mel?
