About the Author

JAMES VILLEPIGUE, a certified personal trainer, is the best-selling author of more than 18 books. His flagship book series, the Body Sculpting Bibles, sold more than 850,000 copies. He resides in Oyster Bay, New York.
RICK COLLINS is an attorney, a former certified personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder, and a monthly columnist for Muscular Development magazine. He resides in Westbury, New York.

More About the Author

Born 5-20-1971, International Best Selling Fitness and Success Coaching author James Villepigue has amassed more than $30 Million in sales so far, and only just got started in the fascinating and emerging world of ebooks. Closing in on thirty heavy hitting titles under his belt in the health & wellness, life success, and fitness genres already, he's up for the task.

Some Basics on Big James or "JV"

* Dedicated Family Man, Husband, and Father of three gorgeous children.
* An powerhouse advertising wizard, with a degree in marketing from Hofstra University.
* A physical trainer of over 22 years with about ten titles and certifications behind his name within the realm of fitness, massage therapy, and oriental medicine.
* Graduated from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC) with specializations in goal achievement and potential development processes.

James had a solid upbringing, the son of a hard working mother and father that were nurturing and supportive. Nancy is not only a long time registered nurse, but was also a middle school nurse for nearly 30 years. James Senior, until his untimely murder, was a confident, brilliant, and ethical businessman.

The Villepigue Ties to America

James grew up on the streets of Roslyn and his ties to NYC run extremely deep.

"My mom's half is Italian and my dad's side French Cajun/Irish. They arrived sometime in the early 1900's. My Italian side, the ScottDeCarlos and Mazellas all worked on the railroad. The Irish ran the RR's back then, so in order to get work, my ScottDeCarlo side had to shorten to Scott, to fit in. My dad's side, the Irish all worked in Tammany Hall! The old NYC Government."

While many of his childhood friends, who back in the old days were known as "The Heights Boys", stuck around and took on municipal jobs, James struck out on his own and ultimately became not only a successful venture capitalist, but an innovative entrepreneur.

In fact, he is responsible for creating one of the most successful fitness book franchises in history with his Body Sculpting Bible series.
Though, James has his own tales of destitution and distress. The murder of his father was almost unbearable, and there were countless long nights, and hard long hours invested into becoming a bestselling author, celebrity trainer, and success coach.

"When I decided to change my career from the family business of outdoor advertising to fitness, the transition was slow going. I made no money and I had to bust my hump to make a living. At the core, I'm a marketer, so I eventually developed a means to get people to see how I differentiated as a fitness trainer. This is what eventually led me to becoming a bestselling author. I had no hand outs and had little support from anyone other than my family."

There is plenty more to discover about James, so dive into his works, and let his world of success, goal accomplishment, fitness, and personal empowerment wash over you like a cool New York breeze.

Some Little Factoids from James Villepigue Himself

* I ride a 2003 Harley Davidson Springer.
* I have a few tattoos.
* I love classical music and can actually train more intensely with music that affects my soul. It's powerful!
* I have a love for Falcons and other birds of prey.
* I have a fascination with Bigfoot AKA Sasquatch. I have a nine foot Bigfoot standing at my side in my home office!
* I love to sing. I have a decent voice, but again music affects me like nothing else!

James currently resides in the East Northport, Long Island area, his favorite author is Jack London, he loves cheating his diet with Ice Cream, and prefers classical and movie scores to play in the background while he writes.

Cheers!

What I like best about the book is it tells you EXACTLY what to do.

Basic summary of the book: Work out intensely and eat a clean diet. Nothing revolutionary here. Although I did like the section that talked about manliness vs. stereotypical macho stuff that often passes for manliness.

A couple of things I did not like about the book:
- It's only a 10 week challenge. You can shed a significant amount of fat in that time, but to build any appreciable muscle takes a LOT longer than that.
- The alpha scale presented uses biceps size as a measure, but there is nothing to correlate biceps size to your body structure. Biceps size is largely determined by your bone structure. Would have liked to see biceps measured against height/weight or waist size to make it more meaningful.
- Trying to hold the workout frequency suggested long term not realistic for most trainees in my opinion.

The diet advice was very good. Eat clean, unprocessed foods. Eat more frequent, smaller meals. Solid.

If you are looking for a book on body transformation, I prefer either Brawn or Build Muscle, Lose Fat, Look Great by Stuart McRobert.

As a fitness professional and recreational bodybuilder, I've certainly read my share of diet/workout books. There are some pretty good ones out there, too. But the "Alpha Male Challenge" is in a class by itself. Authors James Villepigue and Rick Collins have created a program to transform lives - not just bodies. It's a book for any man who wants to take it to the next level... and reach his potential for both physical AND emotional strength.

In other words, it's a blueprint for becoming the kind of man that this strong, empowered woman can admire! There's a lot more to being a man than simply looking like one... and it's this mind-body connection that Villepigue and Collins explore throughout the book. While each component of the program is presented separately, the "big picture" of the true "Alpha Male" is always in view.

What does it consist of? That "big picture" starts with the "4 C's": commitment, confidence, courage and conscience... and the uniquely masculine ways in which these qualities can be expressed. The paleo diet-inspired nutrition plan is also spot-on. It's a cutting-edge, scientifically-validated version of the diet human beings evolved to eat, with variations for accelerating fat loss while living life in the "real world."

And the workouts? LOL! To the general public, "exercise" is a dirty word associated with unrelenting (and often unrewarding) drudgery. Needless to state, the "Alpha Wave Training" workouts devised by the authors - in conjuction with David Sandler, MS, CSCS*D, CCS, HFD - turn this conception on its head. Sure, discipline is required, but there's sufficient variety, flexibility and yes, fun, to engage all but the most dedicated couch potatoes.

This book is ok for guys who are just starting out to get back in shape, but I wouldn't recommend it for guys who have been dieting and working out and want to take things to the next level.

I received the Alpha Male Challenge as an advanced copy from James Villepigue and Rick Collins a few days ago. I enjoyed reading the book and immediately followed their logic and goal of the book: To help men become better people. Do not be thrown by the title, as the Alpha Male is NOT a bully but a gentleman with confidence and self-respect. AND it is a workout book on top of that! The workout is easy to follow even for beginners and can be challenging enough for intermediate and advanced athletes. The tests in the book are fun and I look forward to seeing a competition soon on who is the Ultimate Alpha Male!!!

I completed the Alpha Male Challenge in 2010 and it was an excellent experience. I have been a competitive bodybuilder since the early 1980's and as an aging athlete I found this program extremely beneficial in regaining my 'Manliness' and athleticism! Well Done! I still reference many of the workouts and keep the book out in my home gym for use every week.

hardback is better. E-book makes it too difficult to follow and set up your program. moving back and forth between chapters is a chore

I wondered why this book was only $1.57 brand new and now I know why. So glad I didn't pay $3.99 for next day shipping. If you need a book to teach how to be a man, then your father has truly failed you. And as far as the workouts go, there are plenty of other books that do a much better job. The workout section is the only reason I bought this and I am sorely disappointed but at least it didn't cost much at all.
