It used to be made in the U.S.A., but now it's made in Mexico.

It melts very well and the thin diameter makes it work for small electronic jobs (using small solder irons), as well as jobs a bit bigger.

I will definitely do more business with these people in the future!

I also have been using this solder for years. So, I agree with the rest of the reviews. It's sold at the local Ace and TruValue hardware stores. It used to be made here in the U.S.A.! It used to say Alpha Metals. Now, it's made in Mexico and says Alpha Fry. It's still the same Quality solder as before!

This solder roll is the 31605 which is the thin wire one. If you prefer a thicker wire, simply buy the 31604 roll. Except for the wire thickness, they're exactly the same. Both are 4 ounces, so you get the same amount of solder. Both are 60% tin and 40% lead, so you get the same percentage.

For some reason, most people buy the thicker wire 31604 here at Amazon. I prefer and recommend the thinner wire 31605 because you can use it for large and small projects. With the thicker 31604, you tend to apply too much solder in small projects.

This stuff is amazing! It melts and flows when heated with my soldering iron, then when I remove the iron, it re-solidifies, leaving the wires and electrical terminals permanently attached to one another. It even conducts electricity! Seriously, you really can't go wrong with solder from Alpha or Kester unless it has been sitting around for 50 years in a corrosive environment. How is it that these two companies have staved off the invasion of foreign suppliers? Must be doing something right. The retailer also deserves a share of credit--the correct item was delivered in a timely manner.

I've been using this solder brand for some years now. It's the same brand that's sold in local hardware stores. It used to be made in the U.S.A., but now it's made in Mexico. It's still a great product. Even if in the future they make this brand in China, I will still buy it as long as it's as good as now.

Good stuff. Can't beat lead. This is the type of solder you need for large gauge leads( I build tube amps) the no lead stuff works "OK" for PCB's but I have issues with "no lead" when I want a stronger connection with larger gauges wires and turrets. This stuff just flows nice. I don't know if this stuff is going the way of the 60 watt incandescent bulb or not- but a person would be smart to get a couple rolls..

This is some great solder. As a theatrical electrician, I am soldering very often. I love how thin this is, how it heats, and has a decent length before getting too hot. I've used it on very thin vga wire, up to two 12awg wires soldered together cleanly to make twofers. Worked great each time.

This is an extra soldier I bought to accompany a starter kit that we are just beginning.
It is quality and melted exactly as expected.

4 oz of solder is quite a bit and should last even me quite a while. Cost is reasonable as compared to buying a $30 a pound roll of solder.... The .032 size IMHO is the most versatile size for most projects. Would NOT be good for soldering copper house water pipe EVER due to the Lead. Does a nice job on small components, PC boards and connectors. It makes a excellent shiny solder joint. I should say I do it. LOL. There seems to be just enough Rosin in the core to solder a joint. It IS LEAD solder, so wash your hands after and don't sniff in the fumes. I use a small fan on low to blow fumes away from me. Soldering outdoors on the patio is good too.

Recommended solder. Same type solder I used at Hughes Aircraft for decades. So it must be good.

This is a nice large roll of solder. It melts very well and it's a joy to work with. I had to solder some thicker cables before and just got a long strand and twisted it to double the thickness to make the work faster which is what you want to minimize heat damage. It's perfect the size it already is for regular smaller microcontrollers and sensors though.
