5.0 out of 5 stars Great for learning and just looking
I got fed up with ABC books for a) being boring and predictable and b) using typefaces that were tricky (when the upper case C looks like a G, for example, or the upper case I is no different from the lower case L), so I was delighted to get this book. Kids are great at picking out the essence of a thing - at 18 months old they'll recognise a cow simply because it's black...

3.0 out of 5 stars cute idea!
LOVE the design and the idea behind this but i think it would've been smarter to make it a sturdy board book that a child that's learning their ABC's can handle without damaging

I got fed up with ABC books for a) being boring and predictable and b) using typefaces that were tricky (when the upper case C looks like a G, for example, or the upper case I is no different from the lower case L), so I was delighted to get this book. Kids are great at picking out the essence of a thing - at 18 months old they'll recognise a cow simply because it's black and white and has a pink nose. This book provides them with the tools to recognize letters and the examples are great too: the letters are used in illustrations as part of the picture (an illustration of a face with hair, for example, where the hair is made up of 'H's) and it's got a sense of humor.

I want to buy another one to keep in pristine condition as I feel this will become a classic. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of everyone's favorites, June 29, 2010

From the day my wife gave this book to our 2 year old son, it's been one of his favorites. He has several alphabet books, but this is by far the most original, and I think we all appreciate that. In addition to the unique artwork and presentation of the alphabet, the book has many folding and cut out pages. Ours is already worn out, and we're tempted to get another copy just for us (parents).

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book For Design Geeks and their Kids, March 18, 2010

I like that it takes letters and reforms them into object. Besides being a design geek myself, I appreciate that it is also teaching my son to see things in different ways. It helps him think abstract and see that everything doesn't have to be photorealistic or represented exactly the same way. Helps encourage this more imaginary way of looking at the world to be able to see the face in the cloud. And of course, begin to recognize the letters. Visually, gives more more anchors to objects that start with an a, b, c, etc. than simply putting an "A" next to an apple picture.

This book is presented beautifully! The pages are very bright and creative and the different typesets are fun for children to look at and read. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the most beautiful book on my daughter's bookshelf., January 26, 2010

One of my 2 1/2 year old daughter's favorite books, this is a gorgeous and absolutely original ABC book, unlike any other I've ever seen. Great illustrations and colors, cute text, and educational (even for Moms and Dads who never really gave typefaces a second thought). One small caveat: my son, at her age, would probably have destroyed it. Like a pop-up book, it does have some fold outs and die cuts that could rip if handled roughly....overall though, this is a wonderful book and yes, does make a great gift.

Beautifully designed book. Unique. Great for design orientated parents, typography-philes and for kids learning their alphabets. Not for really young kids and the pages are regular paper that could tear easily.

My son is learning to read and I love how it shows that letters can look different depending on the font. There's a page or two for each letter. And the animals made out of the letters are very cute. The fold out pages add extra fun. A great book for a beginning reader.

We love Alphabeasties. My 3 year old is learning to match letter sounds to letter shapes and this helps alot. Now he can see 'A' and know that it's an 'A'. Before it was just reciting the ABC song without the letter recognition. The pictures and pullouts are cute too!
