Great pictures, lousy words,

This is a beautifully produced set of alphabet cards, with appealing drawings in a classic style, eye-catching colors, and big, dark letters that are easy for a child to see.
Unfortunately, the choice of words is so bad as to be surreal. A is for ... Auto? Any child will see this picture and say "Car" -- and as an added bonus, the A in Auto isn't even a simple long A or short A. Then there's S for Ship (Sssss-Hip?), T for Truck (Tuh-Ruck?), and X for "X MARKS THE SPOT" (yeah, a lot of toddlers know exactly what that means, especially without a picture). Then we have essentially the same item on two cards with two different names: C for Coat and J for Jacket. A nice drawing of a Dragonfly is actually I for Insect. And a lady with a rag in her hand bending over a chair is ... D for Dust. No, I'm not kidding! On the other hand, our two-year-old twin girls really enjoy playing with these cards in spite of the poor word choices. They have learned almost all of the words -- W for Whistle is a favorite. Let's hope they don't grow up thinking that "Car" starts with an A.

These were a gift for my son his aunt. I am a big fan of flash cards for teaching young children their alphabet and for word association.
This is probably the worst set of alphabet flash cards ever written. Many words used for a letter are to advanced for young children, many words chosen do not use the strong sound of the word, they use blended letters like 'sh' and 'tr' in words for the letter, and more. I do give them credit that the material composition is very nice. But, for flash cards to assist in teaching your children, they are AWFUL!.

My son loves these cards! The letters are very big and clear and the card stock is nice and substantial. I do agree that some of the associated words are a bit ridiculous (Auto and Dust being the top), but, it's not like you'll just be teaching one word per letter. And, hey, my son knows the words dust (although who knows what he thinks it is) and question mark (which he impressed family with). Plus, after a while - he figured out that auto was a car.
