Another great and underappreciated album,

This review is from: Alphabet of Hurricanes (Audio CD)
Tom McRae must have more of a following in his home country than he has here, but after quietly making excellent albums for all these years, it's a real shame that he isn't much better known in the American indie music scene. His music may not be progressive or utterly brilliant, but he does the singer/songwriter thing so consistently well that I still admire him as one of my favorite musicians. And "Alphabet of Hurricanes" may not be his best work, but with songs as beautiful as "Summer of John Wayne" and "American Spirit" - and "Please", which is the album's masterpiece and one of my favorite songs of the past several years - it's as deserving of our attention as any of his past albums.
I can sit down at work, click on McRae's name on my iPod, and spend a few hours listening to nearly his whole body of work, hardly skipping any tracks. And this album fits into that collection nicely. I only hope that other people discover his music and realize what they've been missing.
