PreS-Gr 2-This flash card-style program teaches, reinforces, and reviews the letters of the alphabet and numbers from 1-100. Bright colors, playful graphics, animation, and sound effects will appeal to young children who need practice in these areas. Each of the two modules has three levels of exercises, so youngsters can advance their skills. In the numbers modules, the numbers are divided into five groups of 20 numbers from 1-100 to permit sequential growth. In the reading program, youngsters match upper case to lower case letters, sound to letter, letter to picture, and picture to picture with the same sound by choosing from three possibilities. In the number section, players match number to number, number sound to visual number, number to groups of pictures, and put numbers into sequence. The structure is similar to the alphabet frame. Each response receives positive reinforcement and encouragement for incorrect answers. After five correct responses, which are recorded by spots on the dinosaur or giraffe encasing the frame, youngsters receive a reward animation. The colorful animations are appealing, and the vocal portions are clear and pleasant. Clicking on the question mark permits students to hear the instructions again. Only the number and alphabet charts can be printed. The animations will make the drill aspect of the program enjoyable. Installation is easy on both Mac and PC platforms. This program is useful for preschool and early elementary children who need help learning letters and numbers.
