Nirvana on Beatles happy pills!,

This is a real fine album. They should do well here in the U.S., knowing our appreciation for a good melody and the ever-sought-after Beatlesque flavor. And these guys are just teens, I think. Neil Finn's son, Liam, is leader here. AND: For those who wondered where that song that ended the U.S. trailer for the movie RAIN went (on Neil's RAIN soundtrack) -- that song is on this album! "Lucy's Song." ("I only wanna be with you...")

This is a great cd!,

I bought this cd after hearing only one song "sleepy news", and I was really impressed when I listened to the rest of the album. Betchadupa have so much potential and are all incredibly talented musicians (even though they are all really young!). I've seen them in concert twice & they were great live.A must buy album!

The Next Generation...,
By Candi Lee (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alphabetchadupa (Audio CD)
The next generation has arrived. Liam Finn (son of the legendary Neil Finn) and Matt Eccles (son of the drummer of classic Aussie band The Angels) have joined forces in a band and if their debut album is anything to go by these boys will have no trouble reaching legendary status.
The album is truly brilliant and features a wide range of material from these talented young musicians. "Supa Day" "Filthy McNasty" and "Drop D" are pure rock. Then there's songs like "At Night" "Rain" "Feed The Dogs" "Unused Potatoes" and "Sleepy News" which rock just as hard but there's something more melodic mixed in there making them completely unique. Finally there are the mellower tracks on the album "Easy As It Seems" and "Other Way" are perfect but there's also "Lucy's Song" on which Liam's beautiful lyrics and heartfelt vocal stylings would melt the coldest of hearts. The entire album is a winner but standout tracks are "Lucy's Song" "Unused Potatoes" "Feed The Dogs" and "Drop D." I recommend it to anyone and everyone who enjoys good rock music.

this cd passes all expectations,

This is a FANTASTIC album. The first 4 songs are brilliant. Great songwriting from such a young group of fellows. The best way to describe it I guess is 'melodic rock.' It makes you want to get up and rock out but the melodies are always the main part of the song - if that makes sense. I listen to lots of different music and this is best 'rock' I have heard in ages. The slower songs are brilliant too - just fantastic. At their live shows you see a lot of people wearing Muse, Radiohead and Gomez shirts, if that helps to categorise them, but they aren't as dramatic as Muse, more punk than Gomez and have more energy than Radiohead. this is simply a great record. Tracks 6 and 9 and 12 are exceptional!
Try 'em out

Great! Perfect! FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC! I am a gigantic fan of Neil Finn and doing so, I bought his Live Album (7 Worlds Collide [great, check that one out too]) And listened to it many times. Anyways on that album is the Legendary Split Enz rock my socks awesome song 'I See Red' performed by tim Finn, Eddie Vedder, and Betchadupa. I had no idea who Betchadupa was (band fronted by Liam Finn [Neil's Son but an awesome musician in their own right, do we really need that reference?]) so wrong as it may be, I downloaded some of their songs, loved them all, bought the CD and got all the songs that I had not yet downloaded because America in the past year or so has been really just ghetto in the music industry if you don't count Norah Jones and John Mayer and didn't have the songs on WinMX (even if it had I still would've bought the CD) Anyways..ALL of the songs are grrrreat! You can listen to it again and again. And again. The opening track, At Night along with Easy as it Seems (track 3) just make you smile each time you listen to them. Liam Finn's voice is perfect, he makes the music shine..Unused Potatoes, and Feed the Dogs, 2 great tracks on the CD which take a little different turn then all of the others. Then again, its a really variatized CD. Its just awesome..

I bought Betchadupa's Alphabetchadupa on a vacation to New Zealand last summer. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. I just wanted to experience some of the legendary "New Zealand Rock" music. But seriously, this is an awesome CD. Everyone should give it a listen!

Marvellous Effort from up and coming NZ quartet,
By Mike Crawford (Invercargill NZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alphabetchadupa (Audio CD)
I purchased The ALPHABETCHADUPA upon hearing the infectious single 'Supa Day' and the stunning 'Sleepy News'. From what i had heard, i expected a fast paced stereotypical rock album, and thats what i was looking for....I was wrong! Upon hearing the first track '' i knew there was more to this band then the two singles, the sound is like nothing you've heard this last two years from any teenage rock band. they are a mature bunch of lads who have defined their sound in their first album! Liam finns(son of the legendary Neil finn) vocal and guitar work is never at flaw, While the rhythm guitar, bass and drums never fall behind. Basically this is a mixture of slow rock with the occasional fast dirty track to satisfy your hunger. the standout tracks on the album has to be the radioheadesque 'feed the dogs' tidbits of haunting vocals and dirty guitar and the simple 'lucys song' its a attention grabber all the way. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED |
