Nice at first, but lacks polish,
By Omni Adams "DigiDark" (McKinney, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alpine IVA-D106 1-DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA/DivX Receiver/AV Head Unit - Black (Electronics)
When I first installed my IVA-D106, I loved it. Decent looking user interface, good sound, neat features. Now that I've had it for a year, it has some warts:
* Buttons are very small and require precision to push. You have to push right in the middle of a tiny button to make it work, which isn't a great feature for something you'll interact with while driving. * Most setup options require you to put in the "secret footshake" of pressing the parking brake and foot brake to get to the setup menu. This includes things as simple as changing the clock or the color of the background graphics. * The CD player in mine has stopped working. It's been one year and it won't read an MP3 DVD at all, always saying "Disc error". I've tried some cleaning CDs, but it refuses to play them with the same error message. That being said, it still sounds great. But if I had it all to do over again I would buy a different unit.

Alpine is awesome but....,
This review is from: Alpine IVA-D106 1-DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA/DivX Receiver/AV Head Unit - Black (Electronics)
I love Alpine units, thats all i ever liked. that being said, this unit is awesome, it was awesome when i installed it over a year ago, but now that the warranty is up, and its over a year old, the dvd player freezes and stops all the time, will not play any dvds, new or used and just keeps freezeing, i called the Alpine tech help and they said the laser eye is probably failing, and if just send them my unit in a box with a written note in with it they would fix it for $110.00, well already paying over 600 for it, you would think it would last more an a few years, all my other Alpine units did, i had one last over 10 years and sold it to a friend when i got this one and its still going strong in his truck, different unit but still working and its over 12 years old. so that being said, i am leary of just sending a 600 dollar unit off to some tech place and hope thy get it and fix it right and not charge more then they said, well i think they should fix it free if they know of the laser failing in them.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Alpine IVA-D106 1-DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA/DivX Receiver/AV Head Unit - Black (Electronics)
I bought this unit to replace a little older Alpine unit (IVA-D310) that time was beginning to pass by in that it did not allow for Bluetooth and iPod integration. I've been using my new IVA-D106 for a couple of weeks now and I like it a lot. It's also compatible with my Alpine 872A DVD Navigation unit, otherwise I would not have bought it...No front plate LED readout like my D310 had and the screen seems to have a little too much glare in sunlight and changing the monitor angle doesn't really help but still all-in-all a nice unit!
