Well I bought it because of the size and that is all. I knew the Alpine name since I was a kid and it was known for the best brand in this business..etc

I have a 2013 Suburban so I bought the Perfect kit ($400) and it looks great. Steering wheel control and phone button don't work at 100% they only function at 80% so be aware of that.

My expectations were high for the money that I paid but then reality hit !
First, the Alpine people are too darn lazy to make it compatible with iPhone 5/s/c so you are SOL if you have one. No video support. so the "Built for iPod" sticker that they have on the box is really OLD and I consider it false advertising.

Start up, too slow and takes its sweet time to boot up. In other words if you were expecting an instant on, forget it.

Navigation, awesome in predicting addresses. Screen is great. NO TEXT to SPEECH !!!.. can you believe it !
the prompt (to exit expressway or turn) is ONLY half a mile which is too short and WILL cause trouble if you are not paying attention and looking at the unit all the time.

Mute button, will only turn the sound down to 2 so you will still hear it unlike EVERY electronic device out there which will actually stop the sound all together.

Bottom line is this,
if you ONLY concentrate on the sheer size of the screen, you will be very happy. If you start looking at functionality- which is unfortunately, everyday use- you will be very disappointed.

This unit is the PERFECT example of,
1) the most expensive does NOT mean the best !
2) Jack of all trades, Master of NONE !

Well first off let me begin by saying that when I decided to upgrade my rapidly aging and outdated Pioneer AVH 4300DVD, an Alpine HU was the farthest thing from my mind. Not to mention the 1,400.00 price tag. However upon reading a few reviews and mulling it over I figured what the heck, you only live once. To start with this HU is a beast, very large display being a full inch bigger than my previous HU,and as we all know, size does matter. Very good DVD picture, sounds better than my old Pioneer, tons of features. However, there are a few places where IMHO Alpine dropped the ball. First off, very little customization of the display itself, you get about 5 colors to choose from and there's no changing the push buttons along the bottom edge of the unit. Not a deal breaker but at this price those kinds of things are kind of expected. No background displays available to snazz up the look you're stuck with a plain background. Again not a deal breaker, but really? Doesn't seem to like my sd card and you find very little even mentioned about it in the manual. Which brings me to my next point they do include a CD which has the full manual on it. Which is nice if you want to know nothing about your new toy before you get home, they do include a very vague and rather useless pair of "manuals" on paper inside the box. But they really shouldn't have wasted the ink or the time. Doesn't seem to support iPhone video, tried Netflix,no joy. Perhaps they will release an update that fixes this issue. Now it may seem like my complaints are petty and these things might not bother some or most of the ppl that are considering this HU,but at least now you know. And by the way all my gripes about this one are things that worked great on my Pioneer. Now for the good stuff and there is a ton of it.Read more ›

bought and installed a few weeks ago. Called Alpine tech support because i noticed the maps were out of date.... they told me that the U S model HAS NO MAP UPDATE!!!!
What a useless piece of Junk! i uninstalled and got a Kenwood that has maps that can be updated regularly.

1. iPhone connector does not support iPhone 5.
2. USB and SD card does not support video playback, only audio

Other useful features is the bluetooth connection and GPS. But for these two function, this head unit is way, way overpriced.
