These are great little gifts that anyone with a laptop, camera, smartphone, glasses, or electronic device with a smudged screen must have.
They're pretty small, maybe no bigger than a crunched up dollar bill. The cloth has a surface area the size of a CD case, so it's perfect for small electronics. I'm aware that the company also sells larger versions of this product, so look around for that if you need something bigger.
But why should you get microfiber cloths in the first place? Why not use a paper towel, a bath tower, or even your tshirt? I can't tell you the exact science behind it, but apparently there are tons of little fibers in the cloth that make it better at picking up small dust particles. Just make sure you clean them every once in a while otherwise it'll be just like cleaning a screen with a dirty sheet of paper.

the elephant in the room, August 21, 2011

This is a nice little lens cleaner, but please let me just say hello to the major design flaw with it? The little pouch it comes in does not close, so the little cloth is constantly coming out of the sleeve in your pocket or backpack and picking up god only knows what grime and dust from whatever it comes in contact with. Then they want me to turn around and rub this on my camera lens?
Seriously, what were they thinking? Why not make the pouch close so the cloth stays clean? Wtf?

A neat, useful idea, December 27, 2008

I've been using these for years and they are a great help in some situations. They do a great job of removing finger smudges and smears, and can be used with lens cleaning fluid (applied to the cloth) for more stubborn crud. The cloth is not absorbent enough to remove alot of water, so I sometimes carry a paper napkin as a blotter. I use them on my binoculars, spotting scopes and cameras. There are obvious cautions: if there is any dust or grit that might be abrasive on the lens, rubbing with anything is a very bad idea. I do use the cloth in the field to kind of brush or lift such dirt very carefully. A brush would be much better but of course I never carry one. Once you have done that, it is necessary to clean the cloth before using again, however. I unclip the bag and put it in my pocket to remind myself to clean the cloth. Sometimes dust can just be brushed away by hand. Best idea is a thorough rinsing, and that's why a 4 star rating instead of 5. The cloth is sewn into the bottom of the bag, making it impossible to clean as well as I would like. Some sort of clip retainer would make cleaning much easier. As it is, the bag can be turned inside out to facilitate cleaning. I know many people (including me) sometimes go a long time between cleaning, and at some point the crud imbedded in the cloth will reduce cleaning effectiveness and increase danger of scratching. Overall, a convenient way to clean lenses in the field with minimum danger of damage.
