Pleasantly Surprised,

I read about how the old KCE-350BT was plagued with persistent connection issues and was to be avoided. Regardless, I can happily say that the the KCE-400BT has no such issues.
I was a bit weary getting this unit for a few reasons, one being the connection worries mentioned above. More so though is the fact that my car is loud. I installed this in my modded BMW M3-- cabin noise is up there and with the window down and my foot on the throttle it's quite loud. Not long ago I was driving on surface streets with the window all the way down when I got a call; I answered it keeping the window down and intentionally hit the throttle fairly hard a few times during the conversation to see how it fared. The results were very impressive, I could hear and be heard perfectly fine throughout the call. My only real issue with it is that when I want to place a call (I have an iPhone) I can't pick which number to dial when choosing the contact to call (my contacts have multiple numbers), it just uses the first number stored. I don't know if that's a failing of this device or my iDA-X303 head unit, but it certainly limits its usability. This doesn't really bother me though since I hate talking on my phone while driving, I got the unit to be able to answer calls I need to while on the road without having to go digging for my phone every time.

Excellent BT Product,
By The BT audio works great as well, I've only streamed Pandora from my HTC thunderbolt so far but the bluetooth pairing works seamlessly and detects BT audio output right away. Only downside (very minor) is a sequence that needs to be done in order to pair with an alpine headunit. For mine once i wired the 400-BT i had to do the following and the two steps that seem to trip people up (myself included) are 2 and 4. All in it took about an hour and a half to wire and setup (much of that spent discovering the below sequence). 1) set BLUETOOTH --> to Adapter in the CDA-9883's menu 2) Cycle the ignition (turn it off and back on) 3) Go into the menu select BLUETOOTH > Paired Devices, which should all appear blank 4) Once in the paired device menu, I set my phone to discoverable and it stored it I've read on other forums that there may be slight variations with different headunits, but once paired everything works flawlessly. Good decision by Alpine to outsource to Parrot.
