1.0 out of 5 stars I almost died using a Garmin, March 15, 2011

This review is from: Alpine PND-K3MSN Portable Navigation System with MSN Direct (Electronics)
I bought a garmin to go on vacaton. I picked up my car and the attendent showed me how to use it. The people at my end destination gave me travel information. I tried to put it in but the gps wouldn't accept it.It just said 'go to'. when i was about to enter the Holland Tunnel I almost missed the turn. Before I knew it I was on the N J Turnpike. Everybody was honking at me. Then a car pulled up on my right and pointed at my lights. The Garmin had burned my front lights out. I sped ahead to get into the right lane to exit and found myself in the most horrible and freightening town in N J-Newark. To make manners worse, because Social Security was writing me every day trying to stop me from getting my husband's benefits (He had passed away a month earlier) I was working on the estate 16 hours and was lax on my bill paying, so my cell phone carrier had cut me off. I guess there is a law that they can't stop me from getting to 911. I was terrified because cars saw me and were slowing down. The 911 dispatcher said 'Stay in your car and lock all doors!' She asked if I had AARP or Tripple A and I did have Tripple A so she connected me with them. Luckily, my husband had 1000 miles on Tripple A and when the tow truck got there he towed me to where i was going and my car to the closest car repair place. NEVER AGAIN WOULD I BUY A GPS THAT DOES NOT LET ME GO THE WAY I WANT TO GO! AND ALMOST KILLS ME BECAUSE THEY BURNED OUT MY FRONT LIGHTS! The man who towed me suggested an Alpine. He said they were more expensive than the other brands but I could put in my own travel information.as they say, you get wht you pay for and if I have to pay more for an alpine, jsut having the peace of mind that I won't get in an accident is worth it! What a nightmare!!! Garmin, putting it mildly, sucks!!!
