I just installed these earlier today, and wow, was the sound so clear. I was accustomed to the stock speakers for awhile, but, when I heard these first hand connected to a 4 channel 400 watt amp, I was amazed on the clarity, the loudness, and the warm, bright sound. I can't wait to match these mids/highs to the 12" Type-R sub(s). You will definitely be wanting bass after listening to these without a sub/amp combo, since the crossovers take away the bass notes, although there is "punchy mid-bass".

even with out subwoofers they make a the rearview mirrors rattle.
And you cant beat the highs either.
sound great in any car.
try with an alpine head unit and type r subs, and youve got one of the best systems out there

Great purchase my first purchase for my car and i would not have made a better choice. the product is great and i am very satisfied with it, i dont have an amp or subs, but this still hits hard enough to make my rear view mirror shake and has a very good sound. I am very satisfied with the product.

WOW! Great sound, really clear, great fidelity, you can listen sounds you won't with the stock ones. It's a great difference compared to the stock. I personally use them with a 45 wattt Alpine amplifier so I recommend to use this set with an amplifier if you really want to get the sound this set can produce.

Really great cost value for this speaker set.

I added these speakers as part of my complete nose to tail Alpine System in my 2001 WS6 Trans Am.
Alpine IDA-X305S Head unit, Alpine SPR-17S in the front doors, Alpine SPG-17C2 in the back seat area, Alpine SWR1043D Sub and originally Alpine PDX-5 - Amplifier - 4-channel plus Mono-power.


The SPR-17s sound amazing, very nice clean highs and good mid bass. The SPG-17C2 are great for rear fill and sound quality as well. I was a bit disappointed on my bass.. most songs the 1043 Did not show up.. Installer said the 320 out was not enough for a highend heavy duty sub like the 1043, I then ordered and installed along with the other amp a Alpine PDX1600 to drive my Sub..... and WOW did it wake the system up!

I now have amazing clear highs, nice punchy Mid bass and very clean and clear low bass..
awesome sound system, only thing I would have done different now, is get a 4Ch 100 or 150 amp to go with the mono 600 for my sub. I now have 75w 4Ch with an un-used 320 mono... it is not worth selling and changing it out to get an other 25W per Ch. So learn from my build, but I will say again... AMAZING sound, loud and crystal clear.
If you are a Audiophile, you will be very pleased with these parts.

I purchased these speakers as direct replacements for the factory component speakers in my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. Installation was straight-forward with no undue modifications. Night and day difference between factory speakers and the Alpines. I kept the factory radio but I did add the Alpine PDX 5 which is an excellent amp which I was able to mount in stealth location. I replaced the rear speakers with the Alpine coax version of this speaker. I also installed the Alpine SWS-1223D, (single) with a custom box from Subthump. The sound is AWESOME!

Got these installed to replace my front speakers and the difference was phenomenal. They are extremely clear and can handle a lot of power without any distortion. These speakers as another review do rattle you mirrors. I would suggest some sound proofing when installing these (even then the mirrors shake a little). These speakers do sound better once they've been broken in i.e. when the rubber etc becomes a little more flexible. Would definitely recommend these when compared to some of the more expensive components out there. These rock!

This is a great set of components. Make sure you power them to the recommended wattage. Unfortunately, most amps that can push at least 110 watts at 4 ohm's are more expensive than these speakers. I am running a set off of these only using 55 watts rms and they sound great. Clear and accurate.

The only downside is the tweeters are harsh. However, the you can adjust the tweeter level -1db, -2db, and -3db on the the crossover. You can also make the tweets louder if you want. If you find that they are two harsh than just lower the tweeters on the crossover and that should do the trick.

The woofers are great. They hit fairly low. Lower than I expected. On paper it says they go down to 55hz. However, they sound like they hit a little lower than that. I'm planning on squeezing a second set into my back doors and that should put out a pretty impressive amount of base in the cab. With just the front set alone I can see my rear view mirrors vibrating like cell phones.

Overall, a fun system to listen to for hours on end on a roadtrip. They sound the best with rock and metal. Jazz, classical, and indie sound great; basically anything that doesn't dip way down into the lows like rap.

Awesome speakers! I install these into the front doors of my 2003 GMC Yukon. I also installed other Alpine equipment into my truck: Digital 100W amplifier, head unit, and rear speakers. Together, my system is amazing. The base out of these speakers is great, but don't think you'll get thumping bass, because you'll need a subwoofer for that.

Great speakers for the price. The overall range sounds good. However, once you hear how good the sound is theres going to be no stoping you as to upgrade more. Next you'll want to get an amp with a sub!
