4.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers, February 3, 2010

Make sure you consult Crutchfield to ensure the speakers you want to purchase for your car actually fit your car. These fit my Accord like a glove. Paired them with a Pioneer GM6400 amp and they sound great. Can't go wrong with these. Easy to install yourself, too.

Purchased a pair to replace my rear deck JBL speakers. It took only a few days to break them in simultaneously with a pair to SPS-600. Love the new sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alpine Type-S SPS-609, August 31, 2009

Replaced factory 6x9's with these. They were just what I was missing. I have an Alpine CDA-9853 deck, Infinity Reference 6 1/2's in the back doors, and two 12 in Polk's driven by a Sony Xplod 800W amp. I listen to mostly rock so I am not the annoying bass guy you hate sitting next to at a stoplight. With that being said the Alpine 6x9's do a great job of producing crystal clear highs and solid midrange bass (but without my subs I wouldn't be happy). If you are looking for thump add a sub. If you are looking to improve on the quality of your sound (like me) I highly recommend these speakers. They sounds great loud too. My ears hurt before they distort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits the rear deck of a 2007-2011 Camry, January 19, 2011
By

Very little fits the rear deck of a 2007-2011 Camry due to mechanical interference from the torsion springs that open the trunk lid. Cruttchfieldd lists more than 80 pairs of speakers that will fit the front doors, but absolutely nothing for the rear deck.

The good news: a professional installer can, in fact, install these in the rear deck of a 2011 Camry LE. I bought these on the recommendation of a local free lance installer, who also told me that they would be efficient enough to be driven by the factory head unit. [BTW: Alpine says the same thing on its web site: "High efficiency design runs easily off of factory or built-in head unit power for an easy system upgrade."] My installation came out physically perfect. It's visually identical to the factory set up from the interior of the car.

Edit March 16, 2011:

My review is based on using the SPS-609s in the rear deck only. I'm satisfied with the overall performance of the Toyota factory speakers in the front (woofers in the doors with tweeters in the dash).

The bad news: The SPS-609 is very hot in the extreme treble range. Putting these only in the rear deck bounces so much upper treble off the glass that the sound stage is pulled completely to the rear. This imbalance forces you to keep the Alpines dialed down in the front/rear fader, resulting in a very thin bass. However, a set of four might work well.

I've disconnected the SPS-609's tweeters (but not the midrange drivers) as a crude work around. Most of the treble is left intact, but the edge has been taken off. That has allowed me to turn up the Alpines drastically in the front/rear fader while keeping the sound stage forward. The overall sound quality at low to mid volume levels is absolutely outstanding now. It's easily the best low cost upgrade I could have done. Including installation, I paid a lot more locally than what these cost on Amazon, but the improvement in the sound is worth every penny.

Now that the Alpines have been turned up, a new problem has surfaced. The SPS-609s really aren't efficient enough to be driven by the factory head unit to more than moderately high volume levels. The right solution would be to reconnect the tweeters and put an amplifier and equalizer in the trunk. I'll edit again if I get around to it, but I probably won't bother. I'm very happy with the sound as it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great speaker upgrade for the price, March 25, 2011
This review is from: Alpine SPS609 / SPS-609 / SPS-609 Type-S 6x9 3-way Car Speakers (Electronics)
Purchased these for my 2005 Acura TSX a few weeks ago. Installation was super fast and easy, especially with wiring harnesses. After using them for a while and letting them break in, they sound great, a HUGE upgrade from the factory speakers in the so-called "premium sound system". Unfortunately, though, in my car they only put out bass and nothing from the tweeters, so I can't comment on those. But the bass is very strong in the mid-range (seriously, once I got some good music for it, I was blown away), highs are pretty good, lows are pretty bad. I'm running them off of stock amp, so they are underpowered, but still sound good. I would definitely recommend them to anybody looking for a good speaker upgrade for a great price and not willing to get an amp. Only negative (for my car at least, may be different for others) is terribly weak lows, only slightly better than stock.
