There is not a single thing wrong with this sub. The sound quality is perfect and when you want it to, it will blow you away with smooth powerful bass. I have it wired to an alpine MRP-M650 amp and it sounds perfect. It's actually better than the two twelve's I had before. The best thing about is the price, you can't beat it. Trust me, I did a lot of shopping before I picked this one. I listen to a lot of rock, techno, and some rap. This sub sounds great with it all. I highly recommend it. Someguy (the other reviewer) either needs to tune his amp or buy a better one. The bas IS deep and it IS most definitely clean. Don't get me wrong, this thing does have the power to bring the apocalypse but that is why you can adjust your amp to your preference.

The Alpine type -R. Where do I begin? I've been in the car audio scene before I could legally drive. I am now 30 years old and still enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, there are a few subwoofers that outclass the type-r in my OPINION. i.e. L7's (kicker), and the W7's (JL) but for the price.... they can't be touched. I can't believe someone would put these under audiobahn. The alpine type-r will not fall apart, blow, or distort if matched with the proper amp and wired correctly. I was so impressed I am now curious if something for a $100 dollars sounds so good what do the type-x's sound like. Might have to buy a pair and find out. If you seriously want a great and powerful system for under a thousand dollars go with the type-r's as your subs. Don't cheap out and go audiobahn, lanzar, soundstream, sony, or any other cheaply priced and manufactured subs. Those subs are priced under 50 dollars for a reason. One alternative is power acoustik. We murdered a soundstream demo vehicle during a sound off at a grand opening of a electronics store that is "ultimate" with a power acoustik based system.

I bought this sub 2 years ago and it is great. I like how loud it can get while still maintaining good sound quality. This is a great sub for someone looking to get into car audio. It can be found online for half the cost of what retail stores like best buy and circuit city sell it for.

I have just one of these in a sealed box about 1.25 cu/ft, not stuffed with polyfil. I'm driving it with both voicecoils bridged so that my amp is seeing a 2-ohm load (amp is Rockford Fosgate 300.1 putting out ~400 watts rms mono.) The construction of the connection terminals that allows you to use jumpers to bridge at the speaker makes wiring a lot easier than usual. That is a great design feature.
Honestly, I've had about five different subs of various sizes and brands in my truck, and the Type-R 1242D is letting me hear deeper sub-bass frequencies than any of the others before it. I'm VERY impressed with the performance of this speaker. I honestly can't imagine how much more bass anybody would really need than a single one of these, much less some kind of dual-sub setup in a bandpass box with 1000+ watts driving them as I've seen others do in vids posted online. You get two of these in the right box with an appropriately sized amplifier and a stable power supply, and you will LITERALLY be able to blow skirts off. Indeed. ************* UPDATE 3/06/2011 The rearview mirror on the driver's side of my Tundra is vibrating loose. Seriously. ************* UPDATE 4/28/2011 Made some adjustments to the box, stuffed with appropriate amount of polyfill (pillow stuffing), also added a mounting ring to the front of the box in order to make the cutout the correct size. That is one thing to be aware of when mounting this sub; the cutout is slightly smaller than the "one size fits all" cutout that is found on most boxes. If you plan on running a sealed box like I am, you'll want to be sure you've got the size of the cutout correct, so read the specs prior to doing any cutting. I also now have it running off a 4-channel amp bridged down to two channels running 250x2 (watts rms) at 4ohms. Slightly more wattage going to the sub, and with that and the box tweaks, I swear it sounds (and feels) like a PAIR of subs. Still extremely pleased with performance and durability.

OK, so I have alpine type s speakers in my montero sport with an aftermarket deck. I was always turning my music up all the time just so I could have that bass! I decided to invest in a subwoofer so that I could have that bass without the volume so I started looking at subs. I was originally gonna go with the type s sub but it just seemed like amazon had a good price on type r's so i bought one with a attrend ported box and an m500 alpine amp to power it at 500 watts at 2 ohms. Well, my first impressions were ok. I thought the bass was good and was pleased. Then I drove a little and broke them in a little and they started to sound a lot louder and hit better. Just one sub hits hard on some songs but two would be even better. Bottom line: alpine is bomb and for the money, this is one clean hitting sub. it is very deep and clear which is what I wanted.

i spent weeks looking for the right subwoofer for my car and the alpine was the best buy for the money.
it is loud it hits all the notes without distortion. i am a VERY picky sound person and the quality of the sound cannot be beat!! i am an official alpine fan! just make sure you have enough power going to the speakers i have had these for two weeks and after breakin them in they sound better then ever don't let anyone talk you out of getting these they are a great buy!

This is a great speaker that has alot of bass. I have 2 in a vented enclosure in my '96 Taurus. I'm pushing them on a 4500 watt Power Acoustik amp with a 5 farad capacitor. These speakers will hit!!! They have great sound quality. Even tho they have a lot of bass there is still more to be desired.

This sub is one of the best subs I've ever owned, and trust me I've been through a few brands (polk, pioneer, sony, now alpine). Pushing this sucker with an Alpine MRP-500 amp which pushes 500 watts rms at 2 ohm load. It literally feels like someone's constantly kicking the back of my seat, with the headunit (pioneer DEH-p4000ub, also a good product) at around -12 (highest is +6) and the gain at about half on the amp. This sub SLAMS and is practically unbearable at full volume, its bound to give u a headache both inside the car and standing next to it when u show it off. Just can't say enough about this sub. This sub paired with the above mentioned alpine amp are the best mix for the money in my opinion.
