Best sounding speakers I've owned yet,
This review is from: Alpine Type-S SPS-600C - Car speaker - 80 Watt - 2-way - component (Electronics)
I have a 2001 Honda Insight... tiny tiny car. The stock sound system is probably the worst sound system ever installed in a factory car since the 70's. Seriously. So I've embarked on a budget sound-improvement odyssey and these speakers are the step which finally made it really work.
My first step when I got the car was to replace the (paper!) door speakers with a pair of Pioneer Coaxials. Cheap but they dropped right in and helped a lot. But the sound was still definitely low-fi. So I replaced the radio with a Dual unit on sale from Best Buy. It got good reviews for sound quality and had lots of bells and whistles for the money. Noticeable improvement in the sound but still lacked something. I added an 8" Kicker L5 sub in a custom box with a 300 watt amp. Very nice improvement in the low-end but the sound was still lacking. Mostly the high's seemed both shrill and muddy at the same time. Tinny, harsh. It was kind of awful at high volumes, it made me cringe sometimes and I'm no audio snob. I just couldn't take it. Turning down the treble just made harsh music with no treble. I wondered if it was resonance from my doors making such a terrible sound. So I took the doors apart and put in sound-deadening material. It made no difference. Finally I went to Best Buy and tested all the speakers they had on display. These Alpine Components sounded the best to me mostly the highs just seemed smoother than all the others, and they were on sale for very cheap. Installation was a bit tricky, both because of the separate tweeter and because the speaker has a bigger magnet than stock. It also required use of the included adapter ring and a fair amount of minor cutting and dremelling of the speaker cups to get everything to fit. The "instructions" included (just the back of the box) were not much help in this regard. But anybody mechanically inclined should be able to figure it out. Once they were in, I was not able to use the stock Honda speaker covers because the adapter ring made the speakers stick out too far. But the included bolts and screws did not include machine screws long enough to use both the Alpine speaker grill and the adapter ring... oh well, one trip to the hardware store for screws and my speakers were finally up and running. Anyway, it was worth it. The sound is frankly, to my ears, fabulous. Sure I haven't tested any $500 speakers or anything, but I can tell you they are 10x better than the Pioneer Coaxials. I know because I installed just one speaker first and was switching back and forth between left and right. These Alpines sound like a home stereo, the Pioneers sound like a transistor radio in comparison. I can listen to the Alpine's at much higher volume just because it still sounds smooth. Nice imaging, nice and balanced highs and lows, tight bass, no more shreaking. Having the tweeters up higher instead of by your knee really helps. Only problem is now I want another amplifier! I can drive my 17 watt RMS head unit into clipping and the speakers can obviously take a lot more. Admittedly it's pretty loud before I get clipping, louder than I really should be listening, so I don't NEED an amp... just want one. Anyway, my advice if you are just looking for good sound relatively cheap START HERE. Don't be like me and end here. Speakers are the most important part of your stereo and you shouldn't skimp but you don't have to spend a fortune either. These are the older models and they are being closed out you can pick them up dirt cheap but they are still very good speakers. I don't know how they compare with the really high-end stuff but if you've got that kind of money burning a hole in your pocket you're probably not reading this review. I like good value for the money and these definitely have it.

Sound great, tight rich lows, crystal clear highs. Bass end is a little on the sensitive side if you dial the slightest bit extra in. Definintely want to use an amp with these. Give it at least 45-60 watts RMS and they'll sing

The sound amazing. They are crystal clear. You can hear the full range of music. Sounds good with everything from hip hop to heavy metal with a pounding double bass.
It took a bit of work to hve them installed properly. It was worth it to take my time and do it right. I had to dremel the tweeter holes in my door but after much calculating and aiming, I don't think a professional couldve done any better. Very worth my investment

I have always loved Alpine and always will. I have a 12" Type R, MRP-M500, and the Alpine 6x9's so i thought the door speakers would do great. The SPS-600c blew me away, like all the other Alpine products have. Nice sounding bass for the mids, and the highs through the tweeters have sounds that were hard to hear with the bass from the sub. I haven't bought an amp for the SPS-600c or the 6x9's but i am looking into the KTP-445, so i wouldn't need to run any wires.
So All in All great product. 5*s all around.

I have a 2006 Hyundai Elantra sedan and i installed these speakers in the doors and i had to use a dremel to widen the opening of the stock tweeters. Besides that modification and using one of the mounting plates it was a simple install. The sound of the speakers a crisp and it can get very loud if you use a crossover and limit the signals to 70hz or higher. I was expecting more bass from these speakers but i think it was my fault for buying these 6.5" speakers when the speakers in my car are 6.75" so there is a gap around the speakers and that obviously affects the sound quality. The sound waves from the back of the speakers will cancel out the waves coming from the front of the speaker.I'm not deducting any stars from this product because of my mistake so i am giving it 5 stars. It was exactly as it was described and they look awesome. I just need to open up my doors and modify the mounting so there is a tight seal around the woofer.

I bought these for my husband to use in the back doors to go along with his type-r in the front doors. Im not an expert on these but I know my husband is and he's bought semi-decent speakers in the past and thought they were good. He completely over-hauled his system and wanted everything to be alpine so I got the components for his birthday and WOW you can really tell a difference. It's so worth the price, even though Amazon had these for a great price!

Installed these in the rear doors of my 2003 GMC Yukon, along with an Alpine head unit and 100W amp. A great sounding speaker, when you don't want to pump tons of power through them. Good bass and nice treble sounds. Good placement of the Tweeters will make or break how well the resulting sound is.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not accustomed to high end equipment. I can only compare these to the factory speakers. I listen at medium to low volumes, not cranked way up.
I installed these as a replacement for factory speakers. The sound is clearer, but I think I lost significant bass, or added a lot of treble. Even with a decent aftermarket head unit, I end up with the treble turned WAY down and the high cymbals, etc are still quite clear. With the levels set flat, it is far too much treble and not enough bass/mid for my taste. Since installing, I added a pair of 8" Boston Acoustics subwoofers which I setup to handle everything under 120hz. This restores the low end, balances things out, and I am satisified. I would not be happy with these speakers without the sub.

I bought these speakers to replace the stock speakers in my 2010 Hyundai Tuscon. I replaced the drivers side first to compare the two, hopefully to see how much better the Alpines were over my stock set. Let's just say I'll be selling these as soon as I can get rid of them. The "bass" the other reviewers were talking about was not only quieter than stock, but actually sounded worse. I didn't think it could get worse than the stock speakers, but it can, with the SPS-600C.
