Saw the less than stellar reviews and thought I should chime in. The vocals were weird when I tried to listen to this right out of the box, but under the audio tab in the menu is a setting for PCM/Stereo and switching to that made the audio perfect. I don't like to listen to concerts in surround, so cannot comment on how it works in that setting. In stereo it sounds like any great live recording and the vocals are as they should be.

Camera work is fine and the show is very good. Loved summer 2010 and Deer Creek > Alpine was the peak and this show and the excerpts from the following night are fine examples of outstanding Phish 3.0. Still wish they would have released Deer Creek instead though.

Like Phish? Don't believe the negative reviews and get this. The Reba jam will melt your face.

I went down to the guitar store... ;D

I really do not understand the hate on this DVD! The show is good, i wouldve chosen a better show for release but i believe they planned on releasing Alpine Valley on DVD/ Blue Ray before the performance. I love the camera work. The cameramen focus their cameras on band members who are taking solos or doing something interesting. That goes to show you they edited this quite well. There is individual band member shots, complete band shots, crowd shots, and also, unlike other Phish DVD's you get plenty of moments where you see their light show, especially in the second set. The vocals i had no problem with, as long as i set them to PCM/ Stereo, or 5.1 depending on where i watched it. Also the bonus clips from the following night are a nice plus. The Ghost > Theme > BBFCFM is great from the second DVD. The first DVD has 5 bonus songs 3 of them classic Phish songs, a rare cover of On your way down, and Stealing Time from the Faulty Plan, one of their better songs from Joy. On top of this you get 2 CD's of this show, minus the bonus tracks. I paid less than $20.00 for my copy of this set, and it was money well spent.

I'm not sure what the other people are complaining about regarding camera shots and the like. This DVD is a great watch if you like Phish. It's shot like most other pure concert videos. It's a professional shoot with multiple cameras, including one behind the sound board to get the look of the full stage. They move the cameras between up close and long shots, like you would expect. That can get a little boring to some people, but that's what concert videos are, by their nature. The performance is great, and I'm sure most fans would say, "I wish they played this song instead of that one", but that, too, is the nature of seeing a jam band - their set changes every night, and you never get to see ALL of your favorite songs, but hopefully you find some new ones, by being exposed to more of their repertoire. I find this to be a very enjoyable show. I like the Coral Sky DVD a bit better, but that's because you have a couple guests sitting in to spice things up. If you're a Phish fan, you'll really enjoy this DVD and the companion CDs.

Not really sure why people are complaining about the audio and video. I have a reasonably high end set up and both the 5.1 and stereo mixes sound great. On the 5.1, every instrument, including vocals, are clear and present.

The video looks great too...since they split up the show over 2 DVDs, there is little artifacting or compression that is noticeable, so the picture quality is really strong as well. Also, I love the camera work, which other reviewers complained about. It's fairly steady, and there aren't the crazy cuts that you see on other modern concert DVDs.

Great set...and the music! In my opinion, the band had an amazing 2010, and this set and the Utica DVD set are welcome additions to my collection.

After all these years of dvd releases and no bluray they really did a terrible production job on these dvds. If you are wondering why the price is so low for 2 dvds and 2 cds it because phish realizes this was one of their most poorly produced releases since the vegas dvd and that was from a webstream. There's no stationary camera, besides the one on the soundboard, and there are just camera men running around the stage and when they get to page or fishman they stop and shoot them for about 10 seconds and then go back to the other camera angles. Not to mention that you could see audience members hands infront of the camera at points. Lots of zooming in and out that was unneeded. In my honest opinion it looks better than the mp4 livephish released but looks still looks like it was shot was a skeleton crew of cameramen. Phish needs to get a new camera crew and/or production crew. I have seen dvd's made by audience members that did a better job than this release. In closing, Phish has the money now. why can they not hire a good camera crew and production crew?

Since this was a great weekend of music that I thoroughly enjoyed, I ordered this set from amazon before it came out. I'll have to say that I have really enjoyed listening to these discs. Notice that I did not say "watching these discs". The video is quite clearly taken from the video feeds at Alpine Valley. There, as you should expect, the emphasis is not on image quality. Rather, the emphasis is on augmenting the sound with some images for those who are too far away from the stage to see what is going on with any significant detail. It is utilitarian. Think of it as a package done on a budget - good audio supplemented with some images.

The value here is in the music, the audio. What others have said is generally on target. The video is just not good. The audio, however, is not as bad as some have made it out to be. If you are like me and have a high quality (i.e., audiophile) two-channel system with no capabilities for surround sound, you will have to change the audio to 2-channel when you insert the DVDs. The default is 5.1 which sounds just absolutely horrible on a 2-channel system. Once I did that and compared the CDs, they are similar. I suspect that many have submitted reviews before realizing that they were listening to this show in 5.1 on a 2-channel system. That said, the audio is far from audiophile quality, even on the CDs.

So much for commenting on production quality. As for the music, this is a really fun show, with some great extras thrown in from the next night. (The Ghost, for example, is short, taught, and powerful!) Still, there is much better phish out there. I suspect this set will not be staying long in the possession of any phish head who already has a good supply of other music to listen to. Fun for those who enjoy phish, but far from a must-have.
