I have been a fan of Birkenstock shoes for a long time. I wear these shoes because they are steel toes (required in my workplace), are easy to clean and dry, and are relatively comfortable. My complaint is they develop fatal cracks in areas that are stressed. I have written to the USA distributor and received no reply. Earlier versions of these shoes had a longer life. I hope someday this product is improved. There is no replacement that I have found. If someone knows of one, please inform me.

I bought a pair of these in April of 2008. The steel toe has been a "Very Good Thing." As for the cracks? Yeah, I haven't seen any, so perhaps they fixed the poly-material, or perhaps the other reviewer just had a bad batch. They've stood up to oils, sugars, yeasts, and 2,000 lbs bowls of bread dough without showing any real signs of wear. Two years and a month, and I'm finally wearing down the tred on the soul.
