5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL Camp Chair!
My latest fold-up 'leisure chair' once again broke, and I finally decided I wanted something sturdy. This chair is it. My hesitation on buying it was that I wasn't sure how comfortable it would be. Turns out the back actually has a slight angle to it (I didn't notice it in the picture at first) and this makes it much more comfortable than expected. You can lean back...

2.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable, but will rust!
If you decide to purchase this chair, make sure it is not exposed to rain. A significant amount of water will accumulate inside the steel tubular frame, and stay there until the chair is moved (at an angle). Then, rusty orange water will pour out, leaving a stain the color of an orange Popsicle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL Camp Chair!, June 12, 2009
This review is from: ALPS Mountaineering Camp Chair (Sports)
My latest fold-up 'leisure chair' once again broke, and I finally decided I wanted something sturdy. This chair is it. My hesitation on buying it was that I wasn't sure how comfortable it would be. Turns out the back actually has a slight angle to it (I didn't notice it in the picture at first) and this makes it much more comfortable than expected. You can lean back in it much the same way you can with one of the 'hammock' style fold up chairs. Also, the supports that hold up the upper back section of the chair are designed to slip out so you can fold the back onto the seat, then collapse the chair so it reduces the size of the folded up chair - a clever design. Clearly it's a very well made chair and very sturdy, due to the different fold out design. I camp a lot with my young kids and they can pile on my lap on this chair without fear of it breaking or tipping over. It also has a beverage holder on the side that hangs down from the seat, with a velcro strap that goes around the front chair leg -- works fine. Overall I'm very happy with this chair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great chair, April 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for a friend who had back surgery and it was the answer to being able to sit outside and get up easier. Other chairs are too low for someone who has a mobility problem and it is nice looking, gives back support with having the solid back & sturdy. I highly recommend it.

Light weight, strong, comfortable, easy to setup, get out of and wont sink in to soft ground. All desirable trait if you are on the larger side like me. No contortions trying to get in and out of the chair like the cheap ones and lets you sit upright and engaged with your fellow campers. A well designed and crafted product.

Very well made chairs compared to what I saw at Bass pro shop for similar price. They are not light, but Im not walking 1/4 mile with them either... Padding on arm added comfort, slight tilt is great, fabric attractive, overall good looking sturdy chair. Would definately recommend to anyone looking for high quality camping chair for a good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars No More Flimsy Camp Chairs!, July 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a heavy, arthritic woman that can give a camp chair a good workout. I'm dependent on camp chairs when I take my knitted products to craft fairs and farmer's markets. It really cuts into your sales when you have to purchase a new chair every season. The last one I ordered (from another source) had an okay seat with a little sag and fabric arms that tore after the second use. It was rated for 200 lb more than my weight.

Now, for no greater cost, I have found the holy grail of chairs. This is an incredibly sturdy chair with a lightweight but sturdy metal frame everywhere - even the arms. Instead of folding by pushing the seat up, it folds together side to side, allowing a more stabilizing weight-support system. When you sit in it you don't sag or lean back-I can sit upright, facing my customers and doing the knitting that I carry with me to markets. I hate looking like I'm lounging rather than upright and alert, ready to greet them. Arm rests are flat and wide enough to be comfortable. The height of the chair seat is enough that my knees aren't strained when I stand up. The seat and back are covered continuously in a very sturdy material, not the usual webbing. The cup holder is attached to the side of the chair, not the arm rest, keeping your drink out of the way but in easy reach.

This is a wonderful chair and a true bargain, perfect whether you weigh 100 or 400 pounds!

This is the best chair of it's type I have ever seen. I am partially handicapped and I can use the arms of it to raise and lower myself. It is sturdy, very comfortable and of superior quality. Woulnd't hesitate to recommend it. I have one on our front porch and one in the RV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome ALPS Chair, August 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased 6 of these chairs in preparation for a party I was hosting at my lake home. My guests were all clammering to sit in these chairs over the traditional plastic stackable chairs commonly sold at the local big box stores. My guests raved about the comfort of these chairs and all wanted to know where I got them. These chairs are durable, nice looking, comfortable, very lightweight and easy to fold and take with you. I would highly recommend the ALPS Mountaineering Chair over the knock-offs sold by others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alps chair is a good quality overall chair, July 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This alps chair is a very well-built solid chair that should be part of any outdoor activity. The chair is not too heavy and is easy to open and set up. I am extremely overweight (approx 400lbs) and this chair does not shake or sway like most would with that amount of weight. The fabric is extremely thick and comfortable. The metal arms on the side are a plus for leverage when getting up especially if you have knee or hip problems. My only gripe about this chair is it's width. If it were a few more inches wide it would be more comfortable if you are wide on the lower end as I am. I have diligently looked for a chair with a high weight capacity for over a year and this one is one of the very few that are available. If you are thin this chair is a huge plus. If you want a good solid sturdy chair that's high off the ground this Alps chair should be your choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Roomy, Sturdy & Comfy, July 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My husband had been complaining about our camp chairs. We attend a lot of bluegrass concerts and sit for a couple of hours at a time. His back was bothering him. After reading the reviews, I ordered the ALPS Mountaineering Camp Chair. No disappointment! It gives good support without being rigid and is very roomy. He's 6' tall and the regular sized chair is good for him. Could the taller chair have been better? Perhaps. But he is satisfied. I have been thinking of ordering one for myself, but at 5'3" in height I would have to put a pillow at the small of my back for it to work for me. As sturdy as this chair is, the weight is not too bad for carrying. Kind of wish it had a bag, but that's a minor issue. Gotta love the free shipping!
