Well-made, love the aluminum flex poles and this tent goes up in no time. Easy to erect and take down. It's a keeper.

I am 6'4" 270 lbs. This tent is good for me as a single camper. I have had my 10 year old son and we were comfortable with our gear outside in vestibules, but another camper my size...not so good. I took this out in Jan and Feb in Southern Oh and Northern KY. Temps got down to 11 degrees and 14 degrees. Light snow and freezing conditions. Tent held out the moisture from the elements outside, but I forgot to vent the tent and had moisture freezing inside the tent when packing up for the day. My fault. I am not sure if venting would prevent it, but it is not rated a 4 season tent anyway.
The summer use is good if it does not rain. The full tent fly eleiminates the circulation so it feels stuffy when camping in warmer weather. Sacrifice dry for little circulation? I may get a better option for a hot summer tent.
Double doors, I would not buy a tent without them now. Vestibules good for storage, keep one for entrance and the other for extra gear to free up tent space. Includes an upper gear loft, awesome for cmaer, phone, knife, headlight, etc.
One thing that is not part of the tent review but worth mentioning, is the carrry bag has a clear vinyl plastic pouch for instructions, ground cloth or map? Not sure of purpose, but the cold weather just wasn't kind to the vinyl, it cracked so now it's just an annoyance to me because I know I could have prevented it but in the rush to get packed, I stuffed a ground cloth in and caused the crack.

worked great for a two person tent; loved the vestibules and full fly - kept us dry on a super wet hike. highly recommend. Very easy to put up and take down - very quick. We even cooked in the vestibule area when it rained although I'm sure that's not recommended!

I purchased this tent for a solo backpacking trip into the mountains in NM. It was a pretty good climb so I was being pretty weight conscious (on a reasonable budget). I debated between the one person model and the two person. I had read the reviews and checked out the measurements on both. I opted for the two person model, hence the review of this product. The extra dollars and the extra pound and some change were well worth it. First off it would definitely accommodate two people and their gear (utilizing the vestibules for gear). Since I was solo I was able to keep my gear inside the tent, which gave me piece of mind that I was not going to have accidental encounter with a scorpion or other desert critter in my gear. Having the tent being mostly mesh is fantastic. It allowed for total ventilation which on the warmest night was very welcome. Secondly it allows for a great view of the sky at night. It was amazing falling asleep staring up at all the stars. This trip was during monsoon season so I expected I would get at least one storm. I saw the storms coming up and I put the rain fly on, it took me about two minutes which was right on par for the amount of time it took to set up the tent (5 minutes). The weather got pretty rough and the wind was gusting over 50 mph and the rain came down hard, more than an inch in 30 minutes during the first storm. The tent stayed perfectly dry, I was really quite impressed. The second storm came though later in the day and was not nearly as strong. I was resigned to spending some time in the tent as not to get soaked. I did discover a huge advantage to the two person model at this point, aside from the extra room. The two person model has two doors and two vestibules.Read more ›

The ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 2 is a basic three season, minimalist, no frills backpacking tent designed for two people. The tent is well constructed and should last a long time with proper care and cleaning. As with all tents I do recommend using a footprint or tarp underneath the tent.

Pros:

+ Fast and easy to set up
+ Comes with two doors; one on each side
+ Tear down is fast and everything easily fits in the storage sack
+ Decent ventilation
+ The tent seemed very sturdy
+ Internal pockets are nice for small items such as a wallet, flashlight, or snacks

Cons:

- A little on the heavy side
- With two adults there is not much room inside and it will be very close quarters
- No room for storage inside the tent
- The zippers are very stiff and really stretched the material more than I would like. They did loosen up a bit over time but it feels like the material is stretching so much it will tear
- The vestibule area is very small
- I recommend changing the stakes to a higher quality stakes

One aspect of the tent that I would put under both "pro" and "con" is that the rain fly has a window at both ends that you can look out which is nice. The problem is that there is no way to cover the windows for privacy or to keep out the morning sun. Not a big deal but worth mentioning.

Overall Assessment

If you are looking for a minimalist design close quarter tent then the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 2 will work fine as long as you don't need storage space inside the tent. The tent is sturdy and easy to set up and tear down.

If you are looking at different tents such as this one and the Kelty Salida 2 Person Tent I would choose the Kelty as it is lighter and has better ventilation although you are giving up one door.
