wonderful rendition, February 15, 2010

I grew up on Also Sprach Zarathustra, the original Reiner recording on RCA (which has recently been reissued in genuine stereo --- recorded that way before there was gear to play it back on, but someone had a vision). I bought the later Reiner stereo release in both vinyl and digital, and have lived on those since. I was introduced to the Seattle Symphony recording by an audiophile friend, and am very pleased. For one thing, the engineering is superb, AND it has much of the nuance of the Reiner performance. The others in the catalog? Well, for a long time, there was Reiner and the others, but this is a most-worthy successor.
