Product Description

From the Manufacturer

DiskWarrior is the safest, the most technologically advanced, and the most powerful utility to prevent and eliminate directory damage available for any computer. DiskWarrior uses a different approach to disk directory repair than other programs. DiskWarrior is not a disk repair program in the conventional sense. Instead of patching the original directory, it uses a patent-pending technology to quickly build a new replacement directory using data recovered from the original directory, thereby recovering files and folders that you thought were lost and that no other program could recover.

How does DiskWarrior recover data no one else can? At Alsoft, we know that the most important thing when you are attempting to repair your disks is getting your data back. That's why the first thing DiskWarrior does is it scavenges your original directory to find all the file data it can. It then uses this data to build an entirely new replacement directory. DiskWarrior is the only product that finds all of your data. Its patent pending method always results in a perfectly rebuilt directory without any errors and that contains all of your file and folder data.

How does DiskWarrior safeguard data from hardware malfunction? Hardware failure presents a potential threat to your data. When a drive mechanism fails, the data on the drive can be lost, with an expensive data recovery service your only option to retrieve your data. DiskWarrior can be used to activate internal diagnostics that are built into disk devices to help determine if a drive is in danger of physical malfunction. If the potential for failure is indicated, DiskWarrior will notify you, giving you the opportunity to back up your data before the drive fails. These tests can be executed manually, or you can choose to have the tests run automatically every hour, day, or week. DiskWarrior also provides several notification options should the diagnostics report a problem.

Why do I need DiskWarrior? DiskWarrior is the only program where there is never a risk of losing directory data and thus never a risk of losing access to your files. DiskWarrior is also the only program that can prevent damage to your disks before it occurs.

Only DiskWarrior has all of these features:

  • Uses directory data to quickly rebuild the directory structure
  • Eliminates risk of losing access to files other disk "repair" utilities attempt to fix the directory by patching the directory structure and risk deleting sections of the directory
  • Scavenges directory to find all salvageable file and folder data, even data contained in damaged nodes
  • Eliminates unseen directory errors, preventing minor directory errors from escalating into major problems
  • Recovers lost files and folders
  • Optimizes directory for maximum directory performance, speeding up overall disk performance
  • Monitors drive hardware for potential drive failure
  • Verification of replacement directory ensures data integrity
  • Comparison of original directory with replacement directory tells you which files and folders may have been affected by directory damage
  • Preview feature to view what the disk will look like after the directory is rebuilt, allowing you to test files, folders, and applications before any directory changes are written to disk
  • Repairs damaged boot blocks and blesses the system folder to ensure that the computer will start from the repaired disk
  • Checks custom icon files for corruption, eliminating a common cause of system crashes
  • Repairs problems with wrapper volume System files caused when HFS Plus disks are initialized under Mac OS 9.0 - 9.0.4
  • Safely permits interruptions of any kind, including power outages
  • Advanced "Verify Reads and Writes" technology protects your data
  • Supports bad block sparing software
  • Rebuilds directories on disks as large as 2,000 gigabytes (2 terabytes)
  • Supports file journaling (Mac OS X 10.2.2 or later)

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my time and recovered my data, January 5, 2004
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
I couldn't get rid of a folder on my 35MB VST Firewire drive. I tried connecting it to my G4 laptop in the hope that I could rid myself of the pesky 'busy' folder, but to no avial all on OS X 3 Panther. Then I went and booted into OS 9.2 hoping I could delete the folder that way. Still, no go. So... I got my trusty Nortons out, tried to fix the disk and I had an awful hang and when I rebooted, the dreaded message came up that the disk was UNREADABLE, initialise or eject was my choice... oh nooooo!!!

So I noticed a trial copy of DiskWarrior Recovery (baby DiskWarrior) on the Nortons boot disk and out of desparation, tried it. Voila, it worked - up came all my precious files and directories which I could no transfer onto the remaining disk space of my 3 Macs. What a relief. I was going to burn CDs to back up the rest of the data I could not fit on the Macs' partitions and then reformat. I was copying files for 3 hours up to 1.30am.

The next morning, I phoned my local reseller who said they had a full DiskWarrior copy in stock. I rushed down and bought it straight away, booted from the CD and in about fifteen minutes, I had the directories fixed, all my files visible and asked it to recover the disk properly and it did!! Oh happy day, now my disk is whirring away, working better and faster than it had previously. The DiskWarrior generated a report said that the directories were "severly damaged" and had to "scavenge" to get the files and folders organised. And it certainly looks like I haven't lost anything, but for the pesky busy folder which has unaccountably disappeared (good riddance).

Nortons' killed my disk, DiskWarrior ressurected it. What more can I say.

PS: My disk died in the end - I believe it was past its 'use by' date! Fortunately, I was able to retrieve the data. Following that, I bought a new disk and used the case supplied with the dead disk.

5.0 out of 5 stars essential tool for classic Macs, November 30, 2002

This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
DiskWarrior is an insurance policy for keeping your hard disk tidy and data intact. It cleans up the file and directory structure. I generally run it every 5-6 months or whenever the Mac starts acting funky. It's never caused problems and has made noticeable improvements in several tough cases.

I've recently upgraded to Mac OS X; the current version (2.1) doesn't run under OS X but all the reviews are saying that it will boot off the CD and do the right thing for the OS X disk so I'm getting the new version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for my iMac!, October 5, 2004
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
My Os X crashed while doing the software update to 10.3.5. Unfortunately the upgrade froze and I was forced to restart. The computer restarted and went into the Darwin console and would not come out of it regardless of vefifying permissions and other methods. I took my iMac to the Apple store and discovered that this is the program that their techs use to repair disk errors. It recovered all of my data perfectly and is runing good as new now.
