1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, especially under X
Tried this under OS9 and Data Rescue under OSX to recover data on two firewire drives that developed a header problem. Data Rescue recovered far more data from both drives, but the hands down winner was Norton: it repaired and re-mounted both drives.

I so wanted these others to work better than Norton, but they don't, especially if you want to work under OSX.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my time and recovered my data, January 5, 2004
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
I couldn't get rid of a folder on my 35MB VST Firewire drive. I tried connecting it to my G4 laptop in the hope that I could rid myself of the pesky 'busy' folder, but to no avial all on OS X 3 Panther. Then I went and booted into OS 9.2 hoping I could delete the folder that way. Still, no go. So... I got my trusty Nortons out, tried to fix the disk and I had an awful hang and when I rebooted, the dreaded message came up that the disk was UNREADABLE, initialise or eject was my choice... oh nooooo!!!

So I noticed a trial copy of DiskWarrior Recovery (baby DiskWarrior) on the Nortons boot disk and out of desparation, tried it. Voila, it worked - up came all my precious files and directories which I could no transfer onto the remaining disk space of my 3 Macs. What a relief. I was going to burn CDs to back up the rest of the data I could not fit on the Macs' partitions and then reformat. I was copying files for 3 hours up to 1.30am.

The next morning, I phoned my local reseller who said they had a full DiskWarrior copy in stock. I rushed down and bought it straight away, booted from the CD and in about fifteen minutes, I had the directories fixed, all my files visible and asked it to recover the disk properly and it did!! Oh happy day, now my disk is whirring away, working better and faster than it had previously. The DiskWarrior generated a report said that the directories were "severly damaged" and had to "scavenge" to get the files and folders organised. And it certainly looks like I haven't lost anything, but for the pesky busy folder which has unaccountably disappeared (good riddance).

Nortons' killed my disk, DiskWarrior ressurected it. What more can I say.

PS: My disk died in the end - I believe it was past its 'use by' date! Fortunately, I was able to retrieve the data. Following that, I bought a new disk and used the case supplied with the dead disk.

5.0 out of 5 stars essential tool for classic Macs, November 30, 2002

DiskWarrior is an insurance policy for keeping your hard disk tidy and data intact. It cleans up the file and directory structure. I generally run it every 5-6 months or whenever the Mac starts acting funky. It's never caused problems and has made noticeable improvements in several tough cases.

I've recently upgraded to Mac OS X; the current version (2.1) doesn't run under OS X but all the reviews are saying that it will boot off the CD and do the right thing for the OS X disk so I'm getting the new version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for my iMac!, October 5, 2004
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
My Os X crashed while doing the software update to 10.3.5. Unfortunately the upgrade froze and I was forced to restart. The computer restarted and went into the Darwin console and would not come out of it regardless of vefifying permissions and other methods. I took my iMac to the Apple store and discovered that this is the program that their techs use to repair disk errors. It recovered all of my data perfectly and is runing good as new now.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Savior!, November 8, 2003
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
My computer was to the pont where it was either to erase the hard drive and start all over again or buy Disk Warrior. I didn't want to erase my hd or spend about 90 bucks but in the end it was worth it! Disk Warrior erased all the bad bugs and everything that it had to so I could use my IBOOK again. If in the end it clears everything bad, use it on a weekly bases so nothing bad will come back! I highly recomend Disk Warrior for people with computers that are to the point where you have to erase the hd. Im not garenteeing that it will work, but theres a good chance it will! I LOVE DISK WARRIOR! :-D

5.0 out of 5 stars EIGHTEEN AND 1/2 MAC MOUSE POINTS!!, July 10, 2007
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
Oh yeah!
Mac Life is good again!
I spent all last night worrying about a disk that Tech Tool 4 screwed up so bad that it would not show up on my desktop. I spent most of the day trying to retrieve the disk with no success. I downloaded Disk Warrior and within three minutes I was back up. Simply amazing! I am now an evangelist for the product and will use it monthly to rid my system crashes with my complex system setup. I even got the disk icon back!
BUY IT-USE IT-LOVE THE PEACE OF MIND!! Thanks Alsoft! I love you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my data, February 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
I am very impressed. My Mac would not boot into OS X or OS 9. Spent an hour on tech support with Apple and tried all the free options first. They suggested Diskwarrior and since I hadn't made a backup recently I was willing to try anything. I bought it at a local retailer and ran it. It started running and I thought it had froze up and wasn't working but after 6 days of running.....yes it took 6 days, my computer is running great now. Although it tool a while it was bettter than redoing all my work.

1.0 out of 5 stars A frustrating failure for me, December 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
For me, Disk Warrior quickly went into a mode where the "barber pole" stopped moving and didn't resume its motion during two attempts at disk repair lasting over a total of 50 hours. The first attempt at repair ended when the computer screen wouldn't wake up after 5 - 10 minutes of mouse and keyboard activation; the second attempt ended after more than 24 hours of running with the appearance of an on-screen message "Press the power keep for several seconds to restart your computer." Norton Utilities is better at telling you if it can't make progress and in giving you an indication of how much progress it is making when it slows down, as when checking media.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disk Warrior is a disaster, January 30, 2004

This review is from: DiskWarrior 2.1 (CD-ROM)
I purchased Disk Warrior for my iMac and had no sooner inserted the disk than my computer froze. I mean, froze so completely that I had to remove the disk with a paper clip and unplug the computer to begin a restart. I complained to Alsoft and was told to disconnect any peripherals that had not come with my Mac. I don't have any peripherals of this description. I asked for my money back and was refused.
Alsoft will not communicate further.

I made the mistake of buying this software. Don't do it if you are running the latest Mac OS called Tiger. It will just freeze and not work at all. I have an emac which all other software works just fine, except for this one...Worst of the Worst
