"Journal of (Un) Popular Culture" has something for everyone, November 19, 2003

This review is from: Alt.Culture.Guide V1 (Paperback)
This first edition of ALT.CULTURE.GUIDE covers music and media that is often ignored by mainstream publications (and by many underground zines as well). In an era where celebrity-driven entertainment coverage rules the roost, this "Journal of (Un)Popular Culture" steps off the beaten path to offer insightful and entertaining music journalism. The book includes interviews with superstar session bassist T.M. Stevens, country bluesman Richard Johnston and rock legend Wayne Kramer as well as a lengthy feature on "the new rock sound" with bios of the White Stripes, the Strokes, the Mooney Suzuki and other "garage rock" bands. Rants from the Rev. Keith A. Gordon are informative and outrageous, tackling music industry issues like file trading and dropping CD sales with caustic wit and an insider's perspective. Hundreds of well-written CD reviews round out the book, covering musicians as varied as Pete Berwick, the London Quireboys and Dag Nasty to Alice Cooper and the Rolling Stones. The West Memphis Three, Muddy Waters and Michael Moore all receive critical treatment in the media section along with zine reviews and a smattering of DVDs. If you're a culture vulture with a taste for music that matters, ALT.CULTURE.GUIDE is the journal for you!
