5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite New Album of 2011 November 30, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I subscribe to a streaming music service and therefore listen to a lot of different music. I never get bored since there are over 10 million songs available to me. Usually, I'll listen once or twice and move on to something else - but that's not the case with this album. I've had this one in rotation for awhile now and have played it for family and friends as well. It's PERFECT for background music for work or reading, or if you like piano music turn it up and enjoy the quality of this wonderful compilation. Great stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two of the Best February 6, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I have been a huge Bob James fan from the first time I heard 'Rain" from his Obsession album, and I love Keiko Matsui, although I prefer some of her first cd's (Dreamwalk, Cherry Blossom) versus some of her latest works. That said, this cd is a little different than I was expecting, but you can hear classic Keiko Matsui verses in the music as well as Bob's mastery of the piano as only he (and Joe Sample) can do it. And with the DVD of the two of them playing side by side, four handed, what's not to like?

5.0 out of 5 stars Bob James November 1, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This cd is more classical than the "jazzy" Bob James with Fourplay and his other cds, but love his piano playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars glorious classical jazz October 26, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have been a Bob James fan for over 40 years and am never disappointed by his creative work. I always look forward to a new release whether it's Bob and Fourplay or Bob paired with some other amazing artist. This particular album is a joy to listen to and I'm thrilled to be able to enjoy Bob's incredible piano work once again. He is brilliant!

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice pairing November 3, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
What a great pairing this is! It's a 'whoodathunkit" match-up between two jazz greats who are in top form, and both the content and recording are top notch.

The "album" contains a DVD in addition to the CD which, while not an exact match of content, serves to clarify which of the artists is doing what on a shared keyboard---as the liner notes on the CD side are not always clear. It is nice to have both types of media available in a single package. That makes this a great value.

Don't expect any back-up singers and/or other instrumental musicians at work on this album. None are present, and with the talents of James and Matsui, none are really needed.

I recommend this album if you like either or both of the performers as it is very well done!

I have many, many LP's and CD's by Bob James, but this is the first one I've purchased for a long time. It is beautiful and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Jazz-Classical Fusion for Piano Duet September 16, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
First let me say that I listen to mostly classical music, and a little jazz, so I have not followed the careers of these two artists. The album is apparently not typical of what Bob James and Keiko Matsui have recorded in the past. That said, I thoroughly loved this album, which is very much a jazz-classical fusion. There is not that much music written for piano duet, and certainly not outside of the classical tradition. The album and the accompanying DVD contain some beautiful music, well written and wonderfully performed. Watching the DVD gives one a hint of how much these performers enjoy what they are creating together. (Some of the music is found on both the CD and the DVD, but other compositions are on only one or the other.)

I understand that not all styles of music appeal to everyone, but I was appalled by some of the unkind comments left by reviewers who gave the album only a single star. Certainly let us know that the music didn’t appeal to you, and why, but comments such as: “this is music that the two people here probably loved but it does not appeal to anyone outside of their own minds” (REALLY?!) and “an album that seems to have been produced because both artists ran out of thoughts and had nothing better to do” are just insulting to these two great artists.
