5.0 out of 5 stars Best boots... Ever
I am an active duty Army officer who has been using these boots since graduating from Ranger school in 2008. I am currently in the market for my second pair because they have supplanted all my other pairs and since I got promoted to staff, my good old trusty boots just arn't as pretty as they should be... Great boot, they have taken field problem after field problem after...

1.0 out of 5 stars How can I review....
How can I review the product when I haven't even RECEIVED it yet? I ordered those boots for my husband who happens to be serving in Iraq at this VERY MOMENT, ON FEB. 18TH!!!!!!! It is now March 22 and still NO BOOTS! I'm a little upset since they took MY MONEY out of the account! That ain't right! If anyone who can do anything about it reads this, you should contact me.

I am currently in the market for my second pair because they have supplanted all my other pairs and since I got promoted to staff, my good old trusty boots just arn't as pretty as they should be... Great boot, they have taken field problem after field problem after ruck march for over a year and have held up great, and are super comfortable. With a good set of insoles, these boots outshine, in my opinion, the Oakley boot for comfort and durability. They are soft enough to be easy to wear but, they are stiff enough not to tear up your feet, buy these boots and your feet will thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best boots I have ever used, December 31, 2009

I have been in the Army for 14 years now and have worn every type of boot around in three different service uniforms. The best issue boots I ever had were Altama so when I sought to replace my last pair of boots I looked at Altama boots. The Hoplite boots I have held up to everything I have thrown at the on Ft. Bragg and in Iraq for about a year now. They still look and feel great. If you are looking for a comfortable pair of boots you can wear all day, run in comfortably and hold up well, check these out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Altama Hoplites, March 10, 2011
By
I recently field tested a pair of Altama Tan Desert 8" Hoplite Boots which is a fairly new boot. It is a very comfortable and rugged. Most boots involve a break in period however the Hoplite Boots have the feel of a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
The Hoplite boots weigh about 3.70 pounds( for a size 9R pair) which is slightly heavier than the standard nylon desert boot which weigh about 3.44 pounds ( for a size 9R pair). This slight increase in weight gives your foot and ankle more support.
Unlike most desert boots it has two side vents on one side of the boot, which is for draining the boot. The speed laces make a breeze to put on.
The sole is called shark sand lug which was specially designed for sand. The sole will also help keep the heat from the desert off your feet.
The boot has a removable insole which is replaceable. With so many shoes made overseas, this boot is made in the United States. The Hoplite boot is approved for wear with the Army uniform. While no one pair of boots can meet all the different environmental and terrain demands, the Hoplite boot excels for the desert. I recommend it highly as the support and design is a quantum leap from the nylon desert boots I wore in Iraq. The boots retail for approximately $ 150.00 .
