Editorial Reviews

Review

Altared Plans by Rebecca Cornish Talley is a fun romantic romp both teens and adult women will enjoy. It begins with a carefully planned wedding. Caitlyn has thought of everything, well almost everything; she left her veil behind. But that's only the beginning of the disasters that beset her. The groom is a no-show. It seems he made a last minute decision to marry someone else and left it to his parents to explain to his fiancé. Caitlyn's heart is broken and she returns to college vowing to never date again, but her bishop calls her to serve as Family Home Evening mom for her FHE group and the young man called to be the dad has plans of his own on that score. In fact, the romantic and happily ever after plans of several characters run afoul of each other. Though light and fun, this book carries some well thought out insights on appropriate planning and not-so-appropriate planning. It also touches on being open-minded, not jumping to conclusions, and sticking to gospel principles. The characters are almost all college students and they behave realistically for their age group; sometimes they're immature kids and sometimes remarkably mature adults. The plot flows smoothly and the book is well-edited. I enjoyed this book and recognized tremendous growth in this writer's skills over her previous two books. --Jennie Hansen, Meridian Magazine

More About the Author

I grew up in Santa Barbara, CA, with my sister and grandparents. I attended BYU and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Communications. While at BYU, I met and married my sweetheart, Del.

Del and I are the parents of 10 wildy-creative, multi-talented children. We live on a small ranch in rural CO with 7 of our kids, a dog, cats, a spoiled horse, and a herd of goats.

When I'm not writing, I like to date my husband, play with my kids, swim in the ocean, make jewelry, and dance to disco music while I clean the house. I love chocolate and ice cream. My favorite ice cream flavor is Chocolate Seduction.

I am the author of a children's picture book, "Grasshopper Pie" (WindRiver 2003) and three novels, "Heaven Scent" (CFI 2008), "Altared Plans" (CFI 2009), and "The Upside of Down" (CFI 2011). I've also authored numerous children's magazine stories and articles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, September 9, 2009
This review is from: Altared Plans (Paperback)
My husband, who never reads book, read this book before I got a chance to even pick it up. I knew it had to be good if he couldn't put it down long enough for me to read it too.

"Altared Plans" is about a young woman by the name of Caitlyn, who arrived at the Temple on the day of her wedding to find out that the love of her life was on an airplane to be with someone else. Devastated and torn apart she vowed she would never fall in love.

Upon returning to BYU, she is called to be the mom of her FHE group where she meets the father, Travis. Refusing to let herself fall in love again, she tags Travis as "annoying" but finds that she can't keep her mind off him and concentrate on her studies. Can her roommate, Brittany, help her to see that Travis is not like her first love? In order to find out, you need to read this book. Out of 5 stars, I give this book a 6!
