Looking for cheap speakers - these are them,
By
This review is from: Altec Lansing 121 Powered Speaker System (3 Speakers) (Personal Computers)
Needed cheap speakers for my son's hand me down PC. He's playing kid games - Reader Rabbit, Jump Start, Backyard Sports- that sort of thing. Also, occasionally watching a DVD on the PC (Hey I grew up with a 8 inch TV. He can sure watch a movie on a 17" monitor). These work fine for this.
Do you need high fidelity surround sound for your music and heavy duty gaming? Skip these. And if you even considered these $25 speakers for that, you don't know what you are looking for. But for everyday, simply want to get sound out of my computer use, these are a fine solution. (...) If you understand what you are going to get from these low priced speakers, you won't be disappointed. If you expect anything more, spend more money.

This is the best low-priced speakers I ever had. It's truly a mighty midget.

Not worth $30,
This review is from: Altec Lansing 121 Powered Speaker System (3 Speakers) (Personal Computers)
Well, I needed a cheap set of speakers for my lappy, and found these at office depot for 10 bucks. I use them for online broadcasts and some music, every once in a while. They are soooo not worth 30 bucks, but for 10 I am keeping them.
The bass is really hard to get right, it muffles some songs and is non-existant on others. Without the bass on, the other speakers are not worth listening to. In order to get the best from the speakers, play with your audio drivers, I used a 5.1 surround sound setting (which is the only one I had for a bass) and it took 90% of the muddy sounds out.

Bought these two days ago and was very dissapointed. Very poor bass.....trebles too high and no mid range at all. Do not even sound good down low. Do yourself a favour and spend the extra cash on the 2100's. I did after returning them and was much happier indeed.

Now that my 121s have finally died, I want to tell you about my experience with them.
I inherited these from my brother after he had used them on his home recording studio for about 2 years, so they had alot of use and abuse by the time I got them. One of the satellites died soon after I got them, but the other two still worked and they still sounded awesome - better than many other more expensive speakers I listened to when I was looking at buying new ones, even in their 2-speaker condition. I am a singer and used them for rehearsal accompaniment/recording, home studio (instrumental), as well as for critiquing music for websites, etc - they got used ALOT, and abused some. This went on for over a year. I would recommend these to anyone - they sound wonderful, and they are HARDY little speakers!! Both bass and satellites give a strong, warm bassy sound with very good separation - I am able to pick out each and every instrumental and voice part, even at higher volumes with little or no distortion at all; I never once had interference problems either, even with other equipment running nearby. Specs say they are only 10 watts - can this be right? LOL I am picky when it comes to my music and these definitely meet and exceed! You will be very happy with them, especially in this price range. Altec has my business again with another 2.1 set on order - I am SOO looking forward to them! :)

GOOD SPEAKERS FOR SUCH A LOW PRICE,

These are speakers for people who just like to listen to music and is not all caught up in the bass and trebles and all the technical stuff. They have good clarity, but really not much bass. Which is ok for computer speakers, especially if you already have a stereo system or home theater system in your home. For 22 dollars, these speakers are a great deal and I recommend these, unless you want to pay the little extra money to get the 221's.
