5.0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets
I have this set of speakers at home and the are just extroidinary. Don't just hear the music feel it. This set of speakers has the most bang for its buck around, and coming from a company like altec you kow its dependable. So I say if you want to upgrade your sound system this is the way to go.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bass is weak
I tested this system at [another store] next to the CSW FPS 1500 and found that the bass was OK but not great. I prefer the bass on FPS 1500 instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST for the $buck$, January 9, 2001
This is a great speaker system! I bought it a year ago and is still going great (Speakers are very durible and cords too! - perfect for a dorm). There are few times when I can even play it loud enough to be distorted. If you don't want to spend over $100 get this system and save your money.

A few low points of concern -Cords should be longer for speaker (only 6 of 7 ft) -Sub could be louder at times -If you can spend $130 - $150 you will get a system that blows this away (Altec Lansing ADA305 PowerCube Speaker System) -It does have a bit of hiss when VERY loud

This system has the best value I believe, hey do really want to play music loud enough to start getting complaints anyway? If so, get the Altec Lansing ADA305 PowerCube Speaker System - an amazing system!

4.0 out of 5 stars good, but not great, February 23, 2001
By
These speakers are very nice, but don't get me wrong, they don't have the power of Yamaha Power Cubes. For the average user, they will work great and you will have no complaints. But for the 1 in every 100 they will not have the power and the hissing noise when the volume is cranked will deter them from telling their friends about their new speakers. So if you are an average user that would like a mighty fine peice of equiptment, then these are they way to go but if you are the super music fan then look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best BOOM for your buck!, November 14, 2000
This review is from: Altec Lansing ACS66i iMac Computer Speakers (3-Piece) (Personal Computers)
I have a PC but don't get me wrong, I love to accessorize, especially my speakers. When I first bought this 3 piece, I was impressed by its features: 27 Watt subwoofer OF WOOD so it doesn't have distortions, Magnetically shielded sattelites so you don't have to worry about putting it close to your PC. Best of all, it comes with 6 colors, one already on the satellites, five others including yellow, red, green and blue (already on) so you can accessorize accordingly to your iMAC. It has a bass knob on the subwoofer and a volume control on the right satellite.

This stylish system packs a nice 40 Watts, the two satellites together are 13 and the subwoofer is a generous 27. It comes with a nice cord that will look great with your current mac. It's got a input jack you easily hook to any microphone/line source and the AC adapter has a coiling wire that stretches so you can place the subwoofer under your desk, next to a table of wood which is good for the subwoofer to vibrate and shake on. I can feel it on my desk right now, do not underestimate these fancy looking speakers, they kick and has lots of boom!

So far, there's nothing bad, I only dislike the poorer treble quality of the satellites but they're not all that bad-only a little worse compared to my old Creative ones but that's because they were 20 watts, not 13.

If you are looking for a great speaker package to style your mac, go for it, if you have a PC and you are a hardcore gamer/frequent mp3 downloader or just listen to music a lot, I recommend the ACS5x systems. I think you'll find them to your liking with more bass and slightly more treble.

For macs, or the newer ones, to replace your Harmon Kardon speakers is a crime! Don't! Skip on these Altec Lansing ones for now unless you desperately seek deeper, richer bass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best low-cost 5 speaker system, December 12, 2000
By
After reading some reviews on the product, I purchased it about a year ago. After listening to several other sets of PC speakers since, I STILL haven't found a better "bang for the buck" system. If you're an audiophile, you probably want a higher-end set of speakers. I recommend the ACS54 to anyone looking for great sound at a reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality and Value, November 5, 2000

Want big extravegent sound but don't have the money? Well the ACS-56 PowerPlay speaker system is your answer. In test this system has matched and even beaten the Cmabridge desktop theatre 5.1 2500 speaker system, and at only half the price is affordable by even the most moderate spender. Also Coming from Altec Lansing you know the product is reliable. So I say if you want quality and value buy the ACS-56 PowerPlay system from Altec Lansing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have been great for the last 7 yrs, November 29, 2007
I've owned these for the last 7yrs and they've performed flawlessly. I replaced a set of Cambridge speakers and this system blows it away!!!!
While playing MP3's I get complaints from my neighbors to turn them down
and I only have it turned up half way!!!! They work great with games as well
as music and movies. A very solid performer indeed!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very reliable and solid product, November 11, 2005
By
I've had the PowerPlay Plus for3 years now. I bought the set from [...] if I remember correctly. Initially for my laptop which had the lousiest sound quality. Listening to MP3 was almost painful with the laptop's speakers.
Well, it's 3 years later, I've replaced the laptop, but the speakers are still there.

I listen to MP3/online radio and play games every single day, and these little babies have never let me down. I am very satisfied with the sound, bass, and everything else.

I'm pretty sure this set will get hooked up to my next computer ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound quality in low price range, March 22, 2004

Tariq (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
I have these speakers for almost three years now and I'm very satisfied with the performance. Rock solid bass (don't compare it to Harmon Kardon or JBLs) at a very low price (I bought it for $52). If your Audio CD/MP3(VBR at 160-320Kbps range) is of good quality then it will certainly give out the best sound, same is the case with Games.
