Fair Sound, Great Microphone,

This review is from: Altec Lansing AHS-602I 3-D AUDIO AND GAMING ( AHS-602I ) (Personal Computers)
This is definitely not what I expected. It has "simulated" surround sound, and it requires AA battery if you want to simulate surroundsound. The battery lasts about a week if you use it constantly, 12 hours a day.
In all honesty, it is more of an echo than surroundsound. To me, it sounds like any other headset, just a bit louder. The microphone however is really good. I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8.0, and I noticed a tremendous accuracy increase when using this headset. IMPORTANT NOTE TO PEOPLE WITH GLASSES: The cup ear pieces press the glasses into your head. After about two hours, it gets quite uncomfortable. They fit very very snug around the ears, but this causes the ends of the glasses to poke into your head behind your ears. The headset is also quite tight, even after adjusting it. To sum it up, the sound is fair, and the microphone is great.

Well worth the money. No complaints and everyone on TS/Vent can hear me 100 times clearer and louder than the "wrap behind the neck" Logitech type. The boom extends far enough out for my big head and picks up my voice very well. 1 AAA battery is required to hear the faux surround sound, which also acts as an amp to increase the volume. However, it should be noted, my onboard sound card is sufficiently loud without the battery. Just one complaint; I wish the cord was a foot longer, but that's probably just my situation.
The headset is comfortable, but like Alex, I need to re-adjust because like all headsets I've tried, it starts to hurt after awhile. Simply stretching the headset outward to loosen the spring resolved this issue for me.

Ok, I have owned like millions of headsets throughout my life, including some very high priced ones that you could only buy in Japan. But this set here is just plain Kick Ass! The mic quality blows people away on chat programs and internet talk. This headset is the best bang for your buck in this price range. Very nice sound.

Not Bad, Not Perfect Either,
This review is from: Altec Lansing AHS-602I 3-D AUDIO AND GAMING ( AHS-602I ) (Personal Computers)
Good Sound Quality and people easily understand me over the microphone. The microphone also is on a pivot so it is easy to move out of the way when not in use.
The simulated surround sound is of marginal usefulness. If you are not utilizing any type of voice chat it is great. However, I have noticed a decrease in voice sound quality with the surround turned on. They are comfortable for long term play, IF you do not wear glasses. They can be rather painful after only a short period of time if you do. This is a fairly common problem with all headsets though. There is a volume control in the middle of the cord that is a little bulky and can get annoying. It also has the switch on it to turn the surround on/off. On the upside though, the headset appears very durable as it still works fine after being launched across the room multiple times when the volume control got caught on my clothing and I tried to walk away. Overall its a good headset, but you can probably get the same sound quality much cheaper. I actually have a $15 pair of Sony headphones that gives equal or better sound quality, but alas, no microphone.

While admittedly not the best headphones i've ever owned, for that price, you can't beat'm. The sound quality without the SRS surround on is decent and plenty clear for games of music, if you can live with little bass. And for those familiar with the SRS technology, you'll find that this may be the only time that synthetic surround sound through two speakers has ever been properly implemented. True, it may not sound as good as the latest $xxx speaker system from l******, but it does provide a much improved spatial awareness in games and movies, and with some tweaking, can be used to add the bass back to your music. BTW, it's awesome for Unreal 2004 and CS:S, so I give it a 5 out of 5 stars.

2nd pair - Altec Lansing,

My second pair of Altec Lansing headphones. Loved my first pair but rolled over cord to many times so I wanted to replace with same name brand. These were a step up from older pair, which I had used a lot over 3 years. Comfortable, full ear cover. Great for gaming & voice over IP. Love the controls, volume and mic/mute control.
Only con is you need 1-AAA battery for the "surround sound booster", which you can turn on & off at will. Found that it has to be on for mic use, headphones will still work. Tip: don't forget to turn off when not using or you will kill the battery. Not a big fan of needing and replacing batteries for a pair of headphones.

Altec Lansing AHS-602I Headset,
This review is from: Altec Lansing AHS-602I 3-D AUDIO AND GAMING ( AHS-602I ) (Personal Computers)
I would give this around 4/5. Was a wonderful buy as now when I play games I can hear the player comming before it happens. Also has a surround sound function but I am still not used to it. Also the mic has a high pickup and people said they could hear me loud and clear. Only thing is it requires a AAA battery in the little control thing. Also that sometimes falls off but I just usually keep it on my lap.
Otherwise nice headset. 4/5.

Great audio quality - not quite surround sound,

This headset makes listening to any kind of music really enjoyable. The SRS boost is a nice feature, but serves more to amplify sounds, rather than give a total surround sound effect. Either way I still use the SRS, it makes almost every song sound better.
The inline volume control, and housing for the AAA battery required for the SRS boost is clunky making this headset a pain sometimes. The circuit board inside the housing will most likely break after a few drops, or smashes off a computer chair.

Extraordinary,

This headset continues to uphold the Altec Lansing name. It is an extraordinary headset that proves itself each time I use it. Superb sound quality and a clear, crisp mic. It truely does block ambient noises very well. External voices come in muffled, and external noises are unnoticable. The SRS adds life to each type of media. Whether it is watching a movie, playing a game, or listening to music, the SRS gives surround sound that truely makes you feel apart of the action. My only complain is the pressure it puts upon my head. After about an hour of wearing them, my ears will start to hurt. Otherwise, it's a great headset that I would recommend to anyone.
