Not sure what the others are griping about. I've been using this headset and mic for over a year now. Can't report any problems. As an IT worker i'm on my machine over 8 hours a day. I listen to music all day, I've dropped them, accidently kicked them returning to my desk, when they were on the floor, still no problem. Yes, the cord is long, well as with anything else just be carefull. The cord length can be a convenience at times when reaching for things without having to take the headset off and on again. The mic is nothing exciting but functions well, I use it with Skype and it's quality hasn't been superceded by any other mic i've used, no one has complained. Generally a good buy.

Had to write this, in the interest of fairness when i saw the other reviews. Of course everyone brings their own expectations to an experience and my positive could be someone else's negative. I hope this provides a more balanced view.

I've gone through two of these Altec Lansing headsets. Upon the first day of purchase and shortly thereafter, it's a great headset--but they die fast.

It's not sound-cancelling, but it's a very comfortable headset. I am a computer gamer, so comfort is essential for me after long hours of play. It is very light-weight. I can wear this headset all day, unlike most of the bulky sound-cancelling headsets out there. The sound isn't too bad though, and the microphone works well.

Unfortunately, these headsets seem to have a short lifespan. The first died in about 3 months, and the second died within 1 month! In both, the microphone started to malfunction first: the input would randomly become distorted and require to be replugged in for a temporary fix. Then, this headset suffers the fate that most headsets seem to suffer from: one of the two channels will completely die. This is usually a wire problem. The fix? Going out and throwing away money for a new headset. I'd like to call this a conspiracy, because Logitech headsets and other companies do the exact same thing.

If you take EXTREMELY good care of headsets, this might be a good choice. It's a comfortable and has good sound--when it's working correctly.

I use this for Teamspeak, it works.

I completely ruined the first pair I had, by stepping on it, ripping off the left speaker.

It appears I have blown the right speaker this time. I don't think I listen to things that loudly...

This headset has good audio quality, a convenient volume control, and an adjustable mic. However this is product is dangerous. This product poses a tripping hazard waiting to happen. I mean who in the world would need 2 meters of cable to connect the headset to the computer? This headset is not recommended and needs to be redesign or else someone is going to get hurt or to say the least, have their connectors ripped out of the computer and damaged.
