i had these speakers for about a year and trust me till this day i feel sorry that i sold them. now some people might ask why i sold them, so the answer to that question is ..... to make some profit out of them!! :) its always about the money isnt it!! :) anyways, these were one of the best speakers i have ever owned. though they didnt have too much power, i guess about 210watts peak but still they were able to compete with my current logitech z5300, which has 560 watt peak. they both are thx certified but i think that altec lansing sound more refined than logitech. i would like to mention one thing here, if you are thinking of buying these speakers, make sure your sound card is compatible with them. i hooked them up with creative audigy 2 zs and they didnt work very well. i was getting output from 2 channels only. then i replaced my creative with turtle beach santa cruz and valla, i was enjoying the crisp sound of 4.1 channel in no time.

beautiful crispy sound from this little stackupable or separateable 4 small speakers with a giant boombox! even by connecting to a laptop, the sound is just like what i have experienced in a theatre, just amazing! this model should never have been discontinued by altec lansing. i seached on line and got a set of used unit without the remote for thirty five bucks, at first, i still thought the guy who sold me has steeped the price a little bit high, but once i hooked it up with my dell laptop, it just blew me away! what a treat. almost every tiny sound that should be heard but never heard before now appeared so sharply and clearly but the crispy sound never lost its deepness. what a technique from altec lansing. love it and never regret anymore.

I actually had 2 versions of these speakers: the white and the black. Just to clarify, ADA885 is the white version and ADA890 is the black one. I see the mismatch between the pictures and the model numbers all the time on Ebay and sometimes even here on Amazon. The color is the only difference between the two.

I've listened to these speakers for more than 6 years and they still do the magic for me. The speakers hold the quality of the sound even in very loud volume. There were a few times when the sound started to give away in loud volume, but I later found out it was the source of the input not the speakers themselves.

ADA890 has a very unique feature. It could either be configured in the 4.1 or 2.1 setup, just stack the same side speakers on top of another and more space is saved.

The wire heads are colored for easy matching on the speakers and the subwoofer.

The wireless remote is a big bonus. Users also have 4 modes to pick from: prologic, stereo, stereox2, and Dolby Digital) Balance, treble, and bass all can be adjusted remotely or on the speakers.

A headphone jack is on the right front speaker.

There is a reason why even after 10 years ADA890 and ADA885 production have stopped, they are still worth more than some of the newer Logitech THX certified speakers. Attach it to your mp3 or computer and you won't be disappointed.
